VILLAGE NEWS
Friends in Deed
I begin with an apology. The number of our Co-ordinator was given wrongly last month. The rever-
sal of two digits makes all the difference and I am sorry people had such difficulty contacting
Christine Lawrence. This month it is correct.
To more agreeable things. Our very successful Wednesday Cafe will continue throughout the summer months
when there is often a lull in other activities. WE are also looking forward to our Summer Tea Party which will be
held on August 13th. in the garden of The Bowlings, the home of Pam and Miles Falla. We thank them in advance
for their hospitality. If you have had any connection with Friends in Deed, you should receive an invitation. Please
reply, either through your visitor, if you have one, or to the number given. If you do not receive an invitation but
would like to come, please do not be too shy to ask. Also, we can help with transport if you let us know in good
time. We hope to see many of you there on what is always a very happy occasion.

Here for the people of Buckden
We had an indoor garden party to take us into our summer break. Lovely nibbles and lovely
company. A fun quiz and the competition to bring something that you could not live without
was won by Pam Siddall who entered A Cup of Water. So true, although we could have
done without the water that fell on the Buckden Village Festival Fete! Thanks to all mem-
bers that brought cakes for our stall and to those who bought them.
Andy King, who runs a Line Dancing class on Tuesday evenings in Southoe Village Hall at 7pm, was helped by
his display team to get us up and dancing at our party. Ye-How! Great fun.
Hope some of you saw us on Angry Britain where we were highlighting the need for safety measures on our
roundabout. We are using humour to get a very serious matter into peoples minds. Please keep up the pressure
by letting the Highways Agency know each time you have a near miss on the roundabout. Don't let them forget
our plight.
No meeting in August. Our next meeting is on September 2nd.
We still have some seats left on the coach going to Darwin's House on 17th September. Do let me know if you
would like to come. Everyone welcome.
Have a lovely summer

Buckden Over Sixties Club
Firstly, my apologies, I have had a sick computer and it has only just come back to me.
CHANGES TO OUTINGS PROGRAMME:
Outing on September 3 will now be to CORBY TOWN with a trip encompassing Asda, Range, Matalan etc. Cost
to members £15 non-members £16 Departing Methodists, Glebe Lane, Cranfield and Southoe at 9am.
Outing to Duxford & Scotsdale has been changed as this involves too much walking for most of members. NOW
WOBURN ABBEY WILDLIFE PARK AND FROSTS AT WOBURN. COST TO BE ADVISED. Departing as above.
To set everything straight for members, and others. There have been rumours that the club will close. This is no
rumour – Club will cease after the Christmas Dinner. Members will be formally informed in due course. The prob-
lem is that I have no treasurer after this date. I do much of the work myself, but unfortunately it would be illegal for
me to do the treasurer’s post as well.
Hope to see you all at the outings, remember, whilst preference will always be given to members re bookings, this
is open to all who wish to come along. Please give me a call on 01480 811054.
That’s all for now folks,
Pat Wright, Chair
