SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL NEWS
BUCKDEN PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP
Many thanks to everyone who supported our stall at
the Buckden Village Festival last month; despite the
festival being cut drastically short by torrential rain,
we raised nearly £100. This month staff, children and
committee members are all taking a well-deserved
break! But we are back on Thursday 4th September,
and at present limited spaces are still available. Pre-
school sessions are mornings 9-12 or 9-1, afternoons
12-3 or 1 -3 or full day sessions 9-3 Monday to
Thursday, and Fridays 9-12. For more information
you can contact our Chairperson Corrine Emeleus
during the summer holidays on the number below, or
visit our website:
www.buckdenpreschool.co.uk
. You
can also phone us on the preschool number below in
term time to request a prospectus or arrange a visit.
Two important requests before we reopen:
Firstly,
we must ask anyone passing by the Pre-
school balcony not to speak to the children
. We
love being part of a community and having an outside
play space, and naturally the children know many of
the villagers walking by. But we teach the children
about ‘stranger danger’ and that they should only talk
to other people if they’re with their parents or carers.
The balcony is part of preschool premises, so as ex-
pected by Ofsted we must ensure that our child pro-
tection rules are adhered to on the balcony just as
they are inside preschool. We realise that ignoring
the children if they call out feels unfriendly, but we will
be reminding the children of the rules and hopefully
they too will remember that they shouldn’t call out to
passers-by, even if they know them.
Secondly, would you consider becoming a committee
member or even Chairperson? Our Chairperson and
several committee members in key roles, including
Treasurer, will step down at November’s AGM. The
Treasurer role can be shared and we also need fund-
raisers and someone to liaise with the media.
Under
charity commission and Pre-School constitution
rules, without a Chairperson we will be forced to
close
. Please contact Corrine for more information.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
July 2014
We have now reached the end of another school year
– how quickly they pass. These last few weeks have
been very busy with some exciting activities. After a
false start due to the inclement weather we were fi-
nally able to have our sports day. We started with
Key Stage 1 closely followed by Key Stage 2 children
who had the traditional sports races. We also had
parents’ races, the mothers’ race was won by Mrs
Linnell and the fathers’ race was won by Mr McCollin.
The teachers’ race was won by Miss Lizell. Thank
you to all parents and visitors who came along to
support the children. The Reception class visited
Paxton Pits and had a lovely day searching for mini-
beasts. This visit complemented the work they have
been doing in the classroom. Our year 5/6 children
have performed their play ‘Alice in Wonderland – The
Musical’. The Over 60 residents of the village were
invited to watch and enjoyed the play followed by
cake and tea. The parents also enjoyed the perfor-
mances.
The last week of term was change for everyone. Dur-
ing transition week the children meet, and spend 4
days with their teachers for next year, and we also
welcome our new Reception children. The new chil-
dren experienced life in school and stayed to have a
school dinner. Their week ended with a teddy bears
picnic on the school field. Everyone had a good
week preparing for next year. We celebrated the chil-
dren’s achievements this school year in the school
end of year celebration assembly. The children also
had an end of term disco organised by the FOBS
committee.
Our Year 6 children visited their new secondary
schools to familiarise themselves with their new rou-
tines. This followed a busy week when, after their
musical performance, they had their leavers Prom.
Thank you to the Year 6 parents - we are very grate-
ful to you for giving the children an evening to re-
member. The end of year leavers’ celebration as-
sembly was also a very fitting finale and an emotional
time for pupils, who are leaving Buckden School after
7 years, and parents. We would like to wish the Year
6 children and all our leavers good luck in their new
schools.
The Buckden School community would like to thank
parents and members of the community who have
supported the school during the past year. We wish
you all a good summer and look forward to seeing
you in September at the start of the next school year.
