ROYAL BRITISH LEGION
‘The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall
not see them lit again in our lifetime’
A hundred years after these words were said by the
then Foreign Secretary, Sir Edward Grey, the Royal
British Legion is asking every household to turn off
their lights between 10pm and 11pm on August 4th
leaving only a single light or candle* for a symbolic
act of reflection and hope.
On that night we will remember more than a million
Commonwealth service personnel who lost their
lives during the First World War.
Please join us at the commemoration service on
August 3rd and pay your respects to all those who
sacrificed their lives during this dreadful conflict.
*Marks and Spencer are selling the commemoration
candles at £4 each with the profit going to the Royal
British Legion.
