VILLAGE NEWS
Social events
From the beginning, we have taken pleasure [and pride!] in two annual Tea Parties: the first usually in February to
banish the winter blues and the second to celebrate Summer, usually in August. These are by invitation and the
cakes are delicious. No invitation is necessary for the monthly “Drop in for tea, cakes and a chat” which we run
once a month in the Living Stones Room at St. Mary's Church. From December these will be held on the second
Wednesday of the month instead of the first, as at present. We can provide free transport for both these events if
we are given sufficient notice.
Working with other village groups
We have enjoyed working in partnership with Buckden and District Churches Together to establish and help run
the weekly Mums and Tots group and have participated in various children's activity days .
We have worked with representatives of the Parish Council to develop a Welcome Pack to be given to all new-
comers to the village.
If having read this article, you or anyone you know could benefit from help we might give, please make a note of
the numbers given below and contact us.
Also, if you feel you have skills and talents which would enable us to help more people please consider becoming
part of our team. No-one is expected to do everything and the amount of time you are able to give is entirely in
your control. We should like to hear from you too!
We are very grateful for all the support we get from the people of Buckden, especially to the editorial team at
Roundabout who have given us space to re-introduce ourselves.

There are some changes to the programme for 2014. Due to lack of interest or expense the following alterations
apply: -
Outing on Wednesday September 3 is now to CORBY visiting the town and also going on to Asda, Mata-
lans etc. Cost to members £15 – others £16. Departing 9am from Methodists, Glebe Lane, Cranfield Way &
Southoe.
Outing on Wednesday October 1 is now to WOBURN SAFARI PARK. Departing as above. Cost to mem-
bers £20 – others £25. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS HEAVILY SUBSIDISED FOR MEMBERS. Book early as
we now only use a small coach from Kiddles.
Outing on Wednesday November 5 is to SHEFFIELD MEADOWHALL, departing as above. Cost to mem-
bers £15 – others £24. This is an excellent venue to do the (dare I say it) Christmas shopping, for others
that would like to sightsee, the trams leave from Meadowhall at regular intervals.
Club nights resume on Friday September 19 at 7pm. We meet for Tea & chat and there should be some speakers
etc. to be enjoyed as well for the princely sum of £1 per head.
An early reminder of BINGO NIGHT ON FRI NOVEMBER 28 doors opening at 7pm eyes down 7.30pm. As usual
excellent prizes to be won and of course the magnificent Christmas Hamper.
That’s all for now folks, hope you are enjoying the lovely summer, but unlike me are managing not to get sunburn.
