VILLAGE NEWS
FRIENDS IN DEED
We have two events to report: one has happened and the second takes place in the near future.
The summer Tea Party was thoroughly enjoyed. The garden of “Bowlings” the home of Pam and
Miles Falla is an ideal setting and we are very grateful to our hosts for making us so wel-
come. The sunny weather was cleverly arranged too!
Later this month, on October 15th, Friends in Deed will hold its Annual General Meeting. This will be an open
meeting to which everyone with an interest in our work is invited. It is an excellent opportunity to meet members of
our team and in the past, we have received helpful comments on what we do and how we could be more effec-
tive.

Here for the people of Buckden
Buckden Over Sixties Club
The outing to Corby went well, the weather was kind and the shopping venue varied.
Outing to WOBURN SAFARI PARK on Wednesday October 1 is now being booked. Cost to members £20, non-
members £25. This is an excellent venue for those that are less mobile as the coach will take us around the vari-
ous animal enclosures. Don’t forget your cameras.
Outing to SHEFFIELD MEADOWHALL on Wednesday November 5 is now being booked. Cost to members £15,
non-members £24.
All outings departing from Methodists Hall at 9am, pick up at Glebe Lane, Cranfield & Southoe. Booking with me
on 811054.
You may have heard the rumours that the club is closing, this is sadly true, fall in membership have resulted in not
enough committee members to continue. Letters to members will be forthcoming nearer the time to confirm this.
On a happier note, the Christmas Dinner will be on Friday December 12 and bookings can be made with me on
above number. MEMBERS ONLY
Club night will be on Friday October 17 commencing at 7pm.
That’s all for now folks, keep warm & God Bless you. Pat Wright. Chair. 01480 811054
Gas mains upgrade in the pipeline for Buckden Area
National Grid will be carrying out essential gas mains replacement work in
Buckden this autumn. The work will help secure safe and reliable gas supplies for many years to come.
The project is provisionally due to start in October and is scheduled to take six weeks. The existing metal mains
will be replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes that have a lifespan of 80 years.
We will be renewing a total of 500 metres of pipes in Church Street and will be connecting the new pipe to the
existing network at the junction of Church Street and High Street.
As part of the work we may need to replace ‘service pipes’. These are the pipes that take gas from the gas main
in the street to individual homes and businesses. We will contact you in advance if we need to carry out this work
at your property.
We have been in discussions with the highways authority on traffic management measures that will be needed to
keep everyone safe. There will be temporary traffic lights at junction of High Street and Church Street. Temporary
traffic lights will then move down Church Street as we complete the work, finishing at the junction of School Lane
and Church Street.
It is essential we carry out this work so we can keep the gas flowing for decades to come. However, we always try
to minimize any disruption to local residents as much as possible. We will keep you updated about this work. If
you have any queries about this project you can contact National Grid customer services on 0800 096 5678.
