SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL
BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
September 2014
The staff and children at Buckden School have re-
turned after the summer holidays and are now getting
back into our routines.
Over the holidays the school has been smartened
with many areas painted and now looking clean and
fresh. There are areas in the playground that also
have a new look as Miss Harding has been busy
painting the outside walls in the Reception class play
area with pictures of characters from The Wizard of
Oz.
The staff and pupils have returned refreshed and
ready for the new school year. We have welcomed
two new teachers to the school, Miss Hearth, who is
working in Year 1 and Mrs Tarpey who is in Year 3.
Our Reception children have been welcomed to the
school community and have made a very good start
and have settled into the school routines already.
September is a quiet month as we return and get
back into our routines, but look out for further news of
life in school next month.

The start of a new school year is always exciting and
it's been lovely to welcome new faces and families.
We do still have a few available places, but if you're
one of the many parents who requested a registration
pack last term, please return them to us as soon as
possible to secure your child's place and allow us to
plan our staffing. If you are a parent of carer consid-
ering applying for a Preschool place for your child
you are very welcome to come for a visit, but please
arrange a time with us first so that we can ensure
there is a member of staff free to show you around
and answer any questions.
Looking forward, many of our committee members
are standing down from their posts at November's
AGM as their children have started 'big school'. As a
charity-based preschool we can't operate without a
committee and Chairperson, and among the mem-
bers we are losing are our Chairperson and Treasur-
er. You don't need to be a preschool parent or carer
to join the committee or volunteer for the role of
Chairperson or Treasurer, and these roles have been
held very successfully before by parents, grandpar-
ents, and other village residents keen to get involved
and contribute to the community. There are a number
of fun events and sociable meetings throughout the
year and you will receive support from the staff and
committee (present and outgoing!), so please consid-
er finding out what's involved – you can ring Corrine,
our Acting Chairperson, on the number below for a
no-obligation chat.
Talking of events, the Autumn term is always a busy
one. In Preschool it's a time for learning about the
autumn and winter festivals celebrated around the
world, such as Harvest, Christmas, Diwali and Ha-
nukkah. It's also the term for our Halloween Party
and our Christmas Fayre, so we look forward to see-
ing you at these hugely popular events.
