Operation Christmas Child

Shoe Box Appeal, 2018

Buckden Community will be taking part in the above

appeal and shoe boxes will be collected in November.

Operation Christmas Child is a worthwhile charity mak-

ing a difference at Christmas, by giving shoe boxes con-

taining small gifts to children in poor countries.

LEAFLETS

– are available in Saint Mary’s Church, Meth-

odist Church, the Library and Village Hall. Shoeboxes

will be collected in November.

Gift suggestions:

Toiletries:

Toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, comb, hair clips,

bar of soap, flannel, etc.

No Bottles or liquid items please, thank you.

Educational Supplies:

Felt pens, pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, col-

ouring book, notepad, picture or puzzle book, chalk,

pencil case, stickers, solar calculators, etc.

Toys:

Cuddly toy, doll, toy truck, skipping rope, yo-yo, ball,

small puzzle, etc.

Other items:

Hat, scarf, gloves, sunglasses, hair accessories, wind up

torch, jewellery set, sweets (best before date of at

least March 2018)

Are you able to knit a puppet, hat, scarf, gloves for a

Christmas shoebox please? Thank you. Patterns are

available.

Of course, you may like to do your own shoebox and

this would be very welcome, as well.

Another way of helping this appeal is, if you have a

spare empty shoebox,.

Donations of money always welcome for transporta-

tion as this year it will cost £5 to transport each box.

Shoebox Coffee Morning for

Operation Christmas Child

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to

this.

A grand total of £240 was raised for the shoebox ap-

peal.

It was a wonderful achievement so thank you all again.

Caretaker wanted

Buckden Village Hall

Buckden Village Hall is a busy venue used by both reg-

ular hirers and one-off events seven days a week. We

are recruiting for a caretaker to support the Hall Man-

ager and cleaner in ensuring that the buildings and

grounds of Buckden Village Hall are maintained to a

good standard and provide a safe environment for all

users.

Duties include setting up and clearing away after

events, light maintenance work and premises inspec-

tion. We are looking for someone who can work flexi-

ble hours and is willing to work as part of a close-knit

team of three and support the other two team mem-

bers. The post reports to the Hall Manager.

Hours are 16 hours per week with 1 day per week off.

20 days’ holiday, plus Bank Holidays and 3 days be-

tween Christmas and New Year. Hourly pay is more

than the national living wage. The post holder must

be flexible in the working hours, as determined by the

Hall Manager, to cover events.
