Buckden Roundabout
October 2018
School & Pre-school
The new term is well under way and we have wel-
comed our new starters and their families to Pre-
school. We are focusing on themes to do with the chil-
dren themselves, their families, and where they live.
So far they have collaged houses, learning about
shapes as they did so, and worked hard to learn and
remember their address so that if they should need to
contact the emergency services, they could say where
they live.
Coming up, we have an optional visit to St. Mary’s to
talk about Harvest and we will be asking the children
to bring in food items to donate. We are also looking
forward to our annual event that really puts the fun in
fundraising – our Halloween Party! Time to dust off
those ghoulishly glorious costumes and join us for two
hours of dancing, craft and general spooky merriment!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
September 2018
Well, here we are again after our summer holidays. We
have all returned to school refreshed and ready to start
the new school year. Our new Reception children are
settling into the school routines and look as if they’ve
been here for much longer than they actually have!! We
have also welcomed new families to the area and the
children have all joined higher up in the school and
settled into Buckden life with ease.
We had our Harvest Service at St Marys Church. It is the
first service of the school year at church, and the first visit
to church for a school assembly by our Reception chil-
dren. The children brought gifts of tinned food which has
been donated to the Godmanchester Community Food-
bank. Thank you to our parents for their generous dona-
tions.
A group of Year 6 children have had a residential visit to
Normandy, France. Whilst in France they visited the
World War 1 battlefields, the towns of Rouen and Dieppe
and visited a chocolate factory, a cheese and farm and a
cider factory. Everyone had a fun, interesting, but tiring
visit.
The PTA hosted a MacMillan Tea and Cake afternoon.
Our parents provided a wonderful selection of cakes.
We had a brilliant turn out, all of whom had a brilliant
afternoon raising money the MacMillan Cancer charity.
As we returned to school we had a track laid around the
perimeter of the school field. The PTA have raised a
large amount of money towards the cost of the track, and
we had a Buckden Fete fundraiser. This was an event
with many activities including Hook the Duck, a penalty
shootout, Splat the Rat, a tombola, a raffle as well as a
bar and a barbeque.
