Buckden Neighbourhood Plan

Worried about development in the village?

Let’s do something about it.

Buckden Parish Council are producing a Neighbourhood Plan.

We need input from residents to ensure the plan reflects your

views. Tell us what you think. During October we will be asking

you to complete an online or paper questionnaire to express

your view about the future of Buckden. Please make every

effort to respond.

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

A document setting out planning policies for the village, written

by the local community, rather than the Local Planning Authori-

ty. It is a statutory document, to help the community get the

right type of development.

Once the plan is approved any fu-

ture decisions about planning permission in the area must

take the plan into consideration.

It will include things like:

Providing affordable and sustainable housing that meets

the needs of residents

The design and character of any new housing

Allocation of sites for any future development.

Improvements to infrastructure, roads, transport, school

and medical provision

New community facilities

Improved pedestrian links, cycle paths and open space.

Protection of wildlife and the heritage of the village

Protection of Buckden for present and future genera-

tions through long term sustainable planning

Next Steps

We have set up a Planning Group who want to talk to lots of

people locally, residents, businesses, community groups etc. to

find out what’s important to you about where you live and

what you’d like to improve. If you would like us to attend your

group, please contact Anne Howell-Jones on 07557 025241 or

ahowelljones@buckdenparishcouncil.org.uk

The Planning Group will then write the planning policies that

will make the community’s vision a reality. Once a draft plan is

complete, we will submit it to the local authority, Huntingdon

District Council (HDC). They will check that correct procedures

have been followed and arrange for an independent examiner

to check that the plan meets the necessary regulations.

HDC will organise a public referendum. If more than 50% of the

voters are in favour of the plan, the local authority will bring it

into force. It will form part of the statutory development plan

for Buckden.
