SCAMS
•
PENSION
Unsolicited phone calls, texts or emails about your pension are always scams. Scammers will often claim
they’re from Pension Wise or other government-backed bodies. These organisations would never phone or text to offer
a pension review. Beware of unregulated investments offering ‘’guaranteed returns’’
•
BROADBAND REFUND
If you receive a phone call and you are promised refund of £800 for not using the best tariff and
asking for your bank details this is a scam.
•
COUNCIL TAX SCAM
You may receive an email from Online Council Tax UK which claims you are owed a refund and re-
questing you provide bank details via an online form. The email quotes a ‘council.tax.gov.uk’ email address, this is not a
legitimate Government email address.
You are advised not to engage with callers and not to give out any personal details, including bank details, if you receive unsolic-
ited telephone calls, emails, or texts. If anyone believes they have been targeted by a scam call Trading Standards 03454
040506 or alternatively contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online www.actionfraud.police.uk

Gardening with Wildlife in Mind
The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trusts is pleased to announce our next Autumn indoor event. This will take
place on
Wednesday 11
th
October at 7.30pm at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrapston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB
.
Our speaker will be Iain Webb who is the Cambridge Community Conservation Officer for the Wildlife Trusts. Iain will explain
how small changes that we can make in our private gardens can make a really big difference in the conservation of our native
species. He will show us how to attract insects, amphibians, birds and small mammals by providing the best possible habitats
such as ponds, shelter, and food sources. Whether it is by planting the best nectar producing plants or simply by hanging out
nuts and seeds for birds and providing bird baths, we can all help!
This should be a really interesting talk for anyone interested in wildlife. Everyone is most welcome to attend. Booking is not
necessary. Entrance charge £2.50 (accompanied children free). Please contact Tim on 01480 457795 for more information.

Important: A request from Preschool.
None of us want to see dog mess anywhere in the village. But can we ask dog owners to be particularly vigilant around the Vil-
lage Hall (Millennium Centre) area? We have had to clear up dog mess close to the preschool entrance. Obviously, small chil-
dren are not always vigilant and can easily step in it on their way into Preschool, spreading it onto our floors. In Preschool, they
play on the floor and touch their shoes, and of course our younger ones are prone to putting their hands and toys in their
mouth.
Dog faeces can carry several nasty diseases and infections, including campylobacter, salmonella, giardia, cryptosporidium, sev-
eral types of worm and toxocariasis. Toxocariasis can cause blindness and serious illness, including pneumonia and liver en-
largement. I’m sure no dog owners would want to be the cause of such a serious condition in a young child.
