FRIENDS IN DEED

The annual Friends in Deed Members’ Lunch was held on 6th September at the Scotts’ house, and our

thanks go to all those who contributed such a wonderful variety of food and drink, which was much en-

joyed by all.

The AGM will be held on 11

th

October 2016 at 4pm

in the Living Stones Room in St Mary’s, immediately

following on from the Drop-in Café. The guest speaker will be from ChangePoint, talking about general wellbeing in the home

including falls prevention. We hope that as many of you as possible will come along, not only Friends in Deed but anyone else

who is interested in what we do – and you could have a cuppa and a piece of cake at the Drop-in beforehand!

You may know of someone in the village who can’t get out and about much, or who would just like someone to talk to. If they

would like an occasional visitor, please do get in touch with us and we will see what we can do to help.

The Drop-in Café is open on the second Wednesday of each month, 11 October being the next date, in the Living Stones Room

in St Mary’s Church, 2.30pm to 4pm. If you like homemade cakes, tea and coffee, and a friendly atmosphere, why not come

along and join us? Transport is available within the village on request (see below).

BUCKDEN WI

During August W.I. members took a Mystery Trip around the Fens culminating in a delicious tea at Ab-

bots Ripton. Our coach driver, Colin, regaled us with amusing stories, some fact, many fiction, about the

area and it was with great pleasure that we invited him back to talk at our September meeting. He gave

three short talks, the first about John Clare, an English poet, the son of a destitute farm labourer, who

became known for his celebrations of the English countryside. After suffering from delusions, Clare was

admitted to an insane asylum where he eventually died. There followed two brief tales based on Colin's personal experiences,

both highly amusing.

Our next meeting is on October 3rd and is entitled "Beware of sharks – Estate Planning" and the competition is " where there's a

Will there's a way".
