Your Beavers need you!

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting community.

Southoe and Buckden Scouts are looking for new adult volunteers (+18 years old) to help run the Beaver Colo-

ny for 6 to 8 year old children in Buckden. We meet on Fridays between 16.30 until 17.45 (term time only) at the

Scout Hut in Buckden.

The wide ranging program we offer to our Beavers means that anyone is capable of being a Beaver Leader what-

ever your skills or background, and there are training opportunities available for Leaders to enhance or learn new

skills.

The roles are fun and rewarding and you don’t need to be available every week as we operate a rota for Leaders.

It would be great if we could gain new leaders and volunteers to help secure the future of the colony, so ……… if

you can give a couple of hours a week to help run evenings, then we’d love to hear from you!

Please contact: Aidan Joy (01480 810347), or Michelle Duckworth (01480 819461)

Alternatively, email: 1stsouthoeandbuckden@gmail.com.

Following our recent AGM we are hoping to establish greater contact with Buckden Branch and other Branches’

members. Apart from the members` periodic National Magazine there is locally generated information about so-

cial events, trips, concerts, sporting events and so on which may be of interest to members living locally.

July the Parish Council has arranged an event commemorating the centenary of the death of Captain

Green VC who died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Details of this commemoration are expected to

be published at a later date. RBL members of the local or other branches, are specifically invited and it would be

very useful and appreciated if, for all the reasons mentioned above, members, would let us have their e-mail ad-

dresses and/or telephone numbers and some indication of whether or not they would like to attend the Captain

Green commemoration. No response, by the end of February, to the Parish Council’s invitation will be taken as a

refusal.

RBL membership is open to anyone and carries no obligation to do anything at all. Some members and non-

members are actively involved but, all are motivated and very dedicated volunteers.

Policing Update February 2016 – St Neots Sector

The consequences of drug driving will be highlighted in a tri-force THINK! campaign starting on Monday (February

1). In March last year the law changed to make it easier to prosecute those exceeding set limits and roadside test

kits have helped officers identify people driving under the influence of drugs. The legislation covers some pre-

scribed drugs as well as illegal substances. Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire

Road Policing Unit will be conducting an increased number of checks throughout the month in an effort to stop

drug drivers.

The campaign key messages include:

A change in the law has made it easier to prosecute those driving under the influence of drugs.

Those who drug drive not only put their life at risk, but also the lives of others.

One of your loved ones could be an innocent victim of a drug driver. Call our confidential phone line to report

a drug driver.

The penalties are the same as for drink driving. You will lose your licence, could face a fine of up to £5000

and even a prison sentence.

Limits are set on some prescription drugs – always read the label.

Inspector Phil Bloor said: "Driving under the influence of drugs is completely unacceptable and can have tragic

consequences. Even small traces of certain substances can have an impact on someone's ability to drive and

significantly increases the chance of being involved in a collision."

Unusually, for this time of year, we have had no heating oil thefts reported. Perhaps this is explained by the dra-

matic drop in oil prices on the international markets.

We have seen an increase in dwelling burglaries with the specific intent of locating spare car keys and stealing

high-value vehicles. The latest being a BMW stolen from Abbotsley. The vehicle was seen by police travelling in

excess of 100mph and after a successful police operation four male offenders were arrested and charged in Hert-

fordshire and the vehicle recovered.
