Appeal for donations:

We would be very grateful if you could start collecting

clothes, books, bric-a-brac, toys, bags, shoes etc for

us to sell at the Jumble Sale. The only items we are

unable to take are furniture, cycle helmets and car

seats. We can take some donations in advance so if

you can't store it until then please contact Cheryl on

07980 595836 or Wendy on 07908 666747 who will

arrange to collect it for you. Alternatively you can

bring jumble to the Scout Hut from 6-9pm on Friday

15th April or from 9-11am on Saturday 16th. Last

year we raised over £1200, all of which is put towards

activities for all youngsters involved in Scouting in

Buckden, and for upkeep of the Scout Hut.

All donations are gratefully received - thank you.

The Children's Society Box Holders

Many thanks to you all for raising a great total of

£1,429.55 for the Society this year.

Well done. Jo McGregor

OFFICIAL PRISON VISITORS

Prison Visitors are volunteers who visit prisoners in

Her Majesty’s prisons. The demand for this valuable

work is considerable and the need for visitors is

steadily increasing.

One of the Prison Service’s stated aims is to aid in

the rehabilitation of prisoners. Reducing a person’s

likelihood of offending on release requires a wide va-

riety of measures and mechanisms. Prison Visitors

play a crucial part in supporting prisoners and helping

them to maintain a positive contact with normality and

the world beyond the fence.

At present we have a dedicated and highly motivated

group of people from all backgrounds and all ages;

some of faith, some not. What they share is a desire

to make a difference. At HMP Littlehey in Perry there

is a waiting list of prisoners who would like to have

visits from a Prison Visitor. We offer training and sup-

port to equip new Visitors to work in the prison envi-

ronment.
