NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (NHW)
COMPUTER FRAUD or SCAM
Computer Software Service Fraud involves victims
being contacted by telephone and told that there is a
problem with their computer and for a fee this can be
fixed.
HOW DOES THE SCAM WORK
Victims are cold called by phone and told that there is
a problem with their computer and for a nominal fee
the suspect can fix it. The suspects often claim to be
working with Microsoft who have identified that the
computer has been infected with a virus and offer an
update or fix the virus. The victims are talked through
the login steps in order for the fraudster to gain remote
access to the computer. The victims will then often
witness the mouse moving and changes being made
to the display. You are told the problem is resolved,
and requested to pass on your credit card or debit
cards details. Once the initial payment has been pro-
cessed it is not uncommon for additional larger pay-
ments to be taken from the victim’s account without
their permission. In addition to charging a fee to fix
the computer, in some instances programs are also
installed that allow the fraudsters unlimited access to
the computer without the victim’s knowledge.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
Do not allow remote access to your computer
Hang up the phone when you identify that the
call is uninvited
Never divulge passwords or pin numbers
Microsoft or someone on their behalf will never
call you
IF YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN A
VICTIM
Get your computer checked for any additional
programmes or software that may have been
installed
Contact your bank to stop any further payments
being taken.

BUCKDEN WI
Cindy came to us this month
to teach us to make jewellery
from beads found cheaply in
charity shops, card making
embellishments and the odd
Christmas decoration. As an
ex-headmistress used to
teaching children she just about had our measure. All
those brave enough to give it a go managed to leave
at the end of the evening with a pair of earrings, with
some brave souls having a go at a necklace.
The next meeting is on March 1
st
when we will dis-
cuss the national choices of resolutions for the Annu-
al Conference. Bring a plate to share and whatever
drink you choose. Barry Jobling will also be there to
tell us about A Buckden family in the last century.
We are always pleased to welcome visitors , if you
need more details call Judith Armitage on 811717
Youth Committee
Are you aged 8 – 18? Would you like to get
involved in supporting your village? We will
again be running a Youth Committee for the
Buckden Village Festival. Come and help
make the Festival what you want it to be.
The first meeting will be on Sunday 13
th
March in the Village Hall (Millard Suite)
starting at 4.30pm and running for about an
hour. Parents are very welcome
(encouraged) to come as well. There will
be about four meetings between March and
July. Last year the youth decided to have a
stall raising money for charity and had great
fun organising and running it. What will you
decide to do this year?

Review on US Amazon by AllyB [Verified Purchase]:
This is a fascinating book. It would be a great gift, and not just for Christians, but for anyone who loves the lan-
guage of the bible, or who is curious about where many of our favourite turns of phrase have their origin. The in-
troductions to the books of the Bible are well researched and concise, inspiring the reader to pick up a bible and
read more, and the vignettes about the chosen phrases are memorable and draw on a huge frame of reference in
political, social and literary life. This is the kind of book you could buy to read yourself, and then when you've fin-
ished, leave it lying around in a guest room or even a bathroom(!) for others to pick up and be fascinated by. [Also
