February: what a busy month it’s been! The children
brought in beautiful hearts to share with their
friends, decorated with photos and messages about
the things they love, and made Valentine’s cards for
their families too. As I write, they are in the middle
of a week filled with learning and fun based around
Pancake Day and Chinese New Year. They have
enjoyed spring rolls for snack, monkey mask mak-
ing, pancake flipping and a host of other crafts and
activities around our themes, and are looking for-
ward to Friday’s grand finale of pancake races with
their parents and face painting. Thank you to all our
parents and committee members who have organ-
ised events, sponsored children for their pancake
flipping skills and supported our activities. We
couldn’t do it without you.
Thanks also to everyone at Costcutter. They not
only supply our snack for free, but support us in
other ways too – such as giving a home to our big
collection box for Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers.
If you do have any Sainsbury’s vouchers to spare,
we would be very grateful if you could pop them in.
By the time you read this, we will have yet more
new starters at preschool. We look forward to wel-
coming our new children and their families as we
plunge in the deep end for Fish Week and look for-
ward to our spring and Easter themed activities.
Certain sessions are now getting quite full, so if
you’re considering securing a place for your child,
please get in touch using the contact details below.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
February 2016
February is always a quiet month at school. The chil-
dren have been working hard, many of them preparing
for their tests in the summer term.
We have had a couple of noteworthy occasions.
The school Parliament (the school council) have decid-
ed they would like the school to sponsor a guide dog.
We had a special guide dog assembly when a lovely
lady and her guide dog came to school and told the chil-
dren about the work of guide dogs. To raise funds for
this venture the children could bring in their cuddly toys
in exchange for a donation towards the guide dog fund.
Mrs Bigg and her kitchen team also made bone shaped
biscuits for the children to have at playtime. We raised
a considerable total which will go towards out guide dog
fund.
Our Year 5 children had a Magna Carta Day. The chil-
dren (and teachers) came to school dressed in clothes
of the period. They learnt about life in the time of the
Magna Carta, around the early 1200’s. What was life
like for a peasant in 1215, how did the feudal system
work, what was King John really like and how the
Magna Carta came about. They also took part in a vari-
ety of activities including writing in authentic ink.
The school is collecting the ‘Active Kids’ vouchers being
given out when you shop in Sainsburys. We are aiming
to have a record collection this year which will enable us
to buy sports equipment for the school. If you do shop
in Sainsburys, please collect the vouchers and bring
them into the school office. All donations will be grate-
fully received.
Thank you.
