Church News

Thought for the Month

My dear friends,

As we come into December may I first of all wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas. As we celebrate the

coming of God’s Son into the world, let the joy of the Christmas message thrill us as we remember that He came for

us!

Some years ago the young people were given the task of decorating the church building for Christmas. One of the

things they did was to put up a string of letters across the front of the sanctuary spelling out the message: “GLORY

TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST”. When they arrived for the Carol Service they were at first disappointed to see that one

of the letters had fallen from the string, and it was too late to replace it! But their disappointment soon faded as

they realised that the remaining letters still carried a significant message! The letter that had fallen was the second

“E”, and so the congregation at the service was greeted by the words: “GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGH ST”.

The message of Christmas is far too important, too wonderful to keep to ourselves! The shepherds of Bethlehem

give us a magnificent example to follow – having responded to the angel’s message, going with haste to see the ba-

by in the manger, Luke tells us that “when they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told

them about this child” (Luke 2:17).

As Christians, we have good news to share – the very best news imaginable – and it is both our duty and privilege to

take that good news out into the high street, into the community to share it with our friends and neighbours.

God bless you all.

Yours in Christ, Tony Whitlock, Perry Baptist.
