SCHOOL & PRE-SCHOOL NEWS
BUCKDEN PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP
Half term has flown by and we have enjoyed a
trip to the Church for a talk about Harvest as
well as exploring the (wriggly!) world of worms
as part of our Autumnal activities. As the term
progresses we are also looking forward to Di-
wali and Bonfire night activities too. A big thank
you to those who supported us in Jeans for
Genes Day and those who helped support our
nearly new stall at the recent coffee morning.
We have been busy making Halloween decora-
tions for our ‘Deadly Disco’ and are beginning to
think about preparations for our Christmas
Fayre on the 23
rd
November 1-4pm in The Mil-
lennium Centre. We would love to see you there
and if there is anyway in which you might be
able to help either beforehand or on the day
please let us know – (as always there will be a
list going up on our notice board!) This is a high-
light in our fundraising calendar and we are al-
ways overwhelmed by the support and generos-
ity of teachers, parents, groups, friends and lo-
cal businesses who put in a tremendous
amount of work to make this such a brilliant
event. You should start to see posters and ad-
verts going up soon!
We will also be having a stall at the Christmas
lights celebration so if you have any unwanted
items you could donate for our Tombola please
either give us a call or drop them into Pre-
School.
Work on the new website is nearing completion
so as soon as it is finished we will let you know.
You’ll be able to find information about what is
going on in class, important dates for you diary
and photos of activities along side information
about Pre-School itself.
As always, if you want to know more about Pre-
School you can visit our website at

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
October 2013
As we approach half term we have had a very
busy start to the school year. Our Year 6 chil-
dren have been in Norfolk for the week enjoying
the activities at West Runton residential centre.
They took part in a wide variety of activities in-
cluding quad biking, crate stacking, scaling the
outdoor climbing wall and it wouldn’t be an activ-
ity residential if we didn’t fly down the zip wire.
We also managed to spend some time on the
beach discovering what is living in the rock pools
around the bay. Everyone had a lovely time in
exceptional weather for an October visit but
came home feeling very tired. Our Year 5 and 6
children attended Ely Cathedral for the Church
Schools Day along with many other church
schools from the Ely diocese. We had a very
busy day taking part in a number of workshops,
learning to sing in Swahili and learned about
Vellore, an area in India. Our school football
team is now competing against other local
schools in the area, both in one off matches and
in the Millenium Shield tournament. The results
from these matches will be revealed in future
columns. We would like to wish the team good
luck as they start their new season of inter-
school matches and competitions.
Once again we are launching the Operation
Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal. If you would
like to take part in this appeal there is informa-
tion on the Samaritans Purse website
www.samaritans-purse.org.uk. All shoeboxes
can be bought into school or taken to the Meth-
odist Church in the village, by Friday 8
th
Novem-
ber.
FORTHCOMING EVENT
On Friday 13
th
December we will be having an
Afternoon Tea Dance for the Over 60’s in the
village. Visitors will be invited to the school for
an afternoon of tea and cakes, entertainment
and an opportunity to dance with the Year 6 chil-
dren who have been learning the art of ballroom
dancing. If you would like to attend please tele-
phone Buckden School – 01480 810241.
