Trees and Footpaths
A recent inspection of trees in the village and surrounding footpaths has detected no sign of ‘Ash Die-
back’. The Jubilee Oak failed to survive the competition of mature trees on the village green and a new
tree will be planted on Village Hall Trust playing fields.
A14
The Parish Council has sent a letter to the Highways Agency detailing its concerns about the proposals
for the A14. In the letter it has tried to take the wider view of what would be in the best interests of the
local area as a whole but its views are especially influenced by the effects on the villages of Buckden,
Diddington, Brampton and Southoe. The Council believes that there are serious flaws in the proposals,
which will have an effect on the free and safe flow of traffic. The Council’s concerns can be summarised
under five headings:
a.
The impact on local residents both during the construction period and after the completion of the
work
b.
The need for an A1 Bypass for Diddington and Buckden.
c.
The configuration of the Brampton/Buckden A1/A14 interchange.
d.
The removal of the Huntingdon Bypass viaduct over the Brampton Road.
e.
The need for tolling.
A full copy of the Council’s letter can be found on the BPC website.
Dog Fouling
Many local residents have expressed concern about the number of inconsiderate dog owners who allow
their dogs to foul pavements, footpaths and play areas without clearing it up. There are some dog own-
ers who appear to think that they ‘have done their duty’ to the rest of the residents by hanging their poo
bags on convenient trees and bushes. Such decorations are not appropriate even as Christmas ap-
proaches! The Parish Council urges dog owners to show more consideration to their fellow residents
and would remind those who fail to do so that they are liable to prosecution.
Allotments
The winner of this year’s Best Kept Allotment competition was Grenville Gutteridge and the runners up
were Christine Hickey and Albert Corn.
There is still a short waiting list for allotments but the list is still open to new names, so if you wish to
add your name to the list please contact the Clerk.
