Village News

BUCKDEN WI

In a change to our advertised programme, our April meeting featured our old friend Barry Jobling whose

talk and power-point pictures on the theme ‘When We Were Young’ evoked memories, laughter and

conversation. We smiled at how the children and their teachers were dressed, (especially the sports gear)

and it was thought-provoking to remember how things were before ‘Health and Safety’ became an issue

as we saw children playing in the streets, swinging wildly from lamp-posts and even swimming naked in

the Thames around Limehouse where Barry grew up.

On 1

st

May at 7. 30 in the Millard Suite, Dr Maureen James will tell us about Cambridge folk lore. The competition is for a coun-

try remedy. As ever, visitors will be most welcome.

Chairman vacancy at Buckden Village Trust

The current chair of the Trust, John Thelwall, has notified the Trustees that it is his intention to retire as chairman in July

2018.The Trustees are therefore looking for a community minded person to take over the position next year.

It is an interesting and rewarding position. The Village Hall and the recreation ground have a central position in village life.

The Trustees, and particularly the chair, contribute a great deal to the village in managing this well used facility we are lucky

enough to have. The job of chair is not particularly demanding nor does it take a great deal of time. It does not require any

special skills. If you would like to make a major contribution to the village community please contact me (details below).

Don’t forget that as residents of Buckden you all receive discounted rates on Hall hire. Please call or email me if you

would like to find out more information.
