POETRY COMPETITION
You may recall that earlier this year we invited readers to enter our first
Poetry Competition. Although we did not get as many entries as we hoped
(and so left the competition open beyond the published date), we are de-
lighted to publish the winning entries below.
Louise Read wins in the 11 years and under age group, and Peter wins in
the 19+ age group. Please join us in congratulating the winners! We plan
to run another creative competition in the near future!
A poem about WW1 by Louise Read
Standing on the platform
Ready to perform
Dressed up
Emotion seeps in
All under a uniform
Red curtains open up
It's now what we thought
Now time for our deadly act
The applause rewards me
For covering myself up
Night after night I perform
Being pushed further and further
Applauded as a hero but I'm not
Heroes don't have secrets but I have
The spotlight shines
Do I deserve this standing ovation?
After all I am a killer, a murderer
Now that I take my uniform off.
Spring by Peter Keable
Winter and spring collide in perpetual strife
Heralding hope for change and things to arrive.
New life, seeds and love grow swiftly in natures thrive.
Yet spring slaps the face of our tenuous life.
As always we shrug winter away to start an iconic trans-
formation
Where the sun shines to hold our inclusion
In an earthly journey who's cord is yet to feel the knife.
