Buckden Roundabout

March 2017

Thought for the month

Dear Friends

I was recently reading of someone who visited an ice-rink and watched a teenage girl trying to perfect an extremely difficult

jump. She had a coach with her seeking to give help and advice. Time and again she fell down on the ice and each time the

coach motioned with his hand to get up and try again.

With one fall she did not get up and the look on her face apparently showed total discouragement. Her coach again helped her

up and told her to try again. Another fall followed but this time she got up immediately and skated around the rink several

times with increasing speed, then came the jump and she succeeded with a twist and a turn included and a perfect landing. She

stayed motionless for a few moments enjoying the sense of achievement and her coach applauded.

Life is like that for all of us at times. We attempt things and set out to achieve things only to be often knocked over by the pres-

sures and demands of life. We can easily fail and fall but usually we move on and try again. Following the Christian life is never

easy either. There are many joys and blessings in store along the way, many encouragements which God sends, but we often

fail and fall in the hopes and aims we seek to fulfill.

The Christian life is not ultimately dependent upon our ability or failure however, but rather upon the life of Jesus Christ that we

possess and the God in Whom we trust. Yes, God calls us to persevere and at times to face many challenges but He also pro-

vides the strength and faith to win through as we live in trust in Him. Life can be a challenge but God's blessings are many and

His daily presence can be real to those who place their faith fully in Him.
