What do you know about …
…Buckden Gardeners Association?
Buckden Gardeners Association
is a friendly group of people with a shared interest in gardens.
We’re always on the look-out for new members who are interested in gardening, garden wildlife, or just
like visiting gardens, both gardeners and non-gardeners – we’d especially like to welcome some
younger families into the group. Family membership is only £5 per year.
Here’s what we do:
We run a programme of monthly meetings from October to April with speakers who talk on a
range of gardening (and garden wildlife) related topics. Members free; non-members welcome -
£2 entrance fee.
In the summer months, we organise group outings to gardens, nurseries, National Trust gardens,
etc.
We have several social events throughout the year.
We organise two shows per year in the Village Hall in Spring and Autumn.
We run the BGA Shed by the allotments in Silver Street where we sell competitively priced gar-
dening essentials to members.
We’d especially like to invite you to join in with this year’s
BGA Spring Show on Saturday 5
th
April at Buckden Village Hall
see the show schedule and entry form opposite
This is a great opportunity to show off your daffodils and other favourite spring flowers from your gar-
den. There are also classes for flower arrangers, bakers, crafters, photographers – something for eve-
ryone. Younger people are not forgotten and we hope to get many wonderful exhibits in the children’s
classes.
Our shows are relaxed and informal, and open to everyone. Entering exhibits is straightforward and we
love to welcome newcomers. You will be amazed at how many classes you can enter. It’s great fun!
Whether you enter or not, do come to the Hall at 3pm on Saturday 5
th
April to have a look while you
enjoy a cup of tea and a Hot Cross Bun.

VILLAGE NEWS
The traditional art of Tower Bellringing
Have you ever wanted to be part of a tradition reaching back hundreds of years?
Have you ever wanted a bit of gentle exercise?
Have you ever heard the sound of bells drifting over the village and stopped to listen?
We are looking for new members and are happy to provide training if you have never rung before. We
are an informal club and so there is no requirement to come every week.
It is completely free with no membership fees etc (and when you’re good enough you can even earn
money ringing for weddings).
We ring on a Monday evening from 8.00 – 9.00pm. Some of us then head to the Lion for some refresh-
ment.
If you are interested and aged between about 12 and 70 you can either call Philip Miles on 810027 or
just turn up - you will see a small door on the outside of the tower of St Mary’s church.
