VILLAGE NEWS
I love the enthusiasm of members of our vibrant WI but could I respectfully remind you not to arrive before 7.15 for
our 7.30 start so that your committee has time to set up. Thank you.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 4th March. 7.30 in Buckden School Hall. Visitors are most welcome £3. We
have an interesting speaker lined up, Robert Parker, who is going to talk to us about 'Genealogy'. The competi-
tion is to bring an Old Family Photo and the sales table is themed on the letter 'C'...crockery, candles, anything to
raise a bit of cash towards our catering costs.
I was extremely pleased that our WI voted to send some support to those in need of help after the floods in Som-
erset. I will let you know at the meeting what our money went to. The WI ladies that I spoke to were very touched
by our offer of support and pleased that we were thinking about them.
Final call for the balance of £235 for our Derbyshire Holiday. Cheques to P.King please by the next meeting.
Also please bring payment for the trip to Melton Mowbray Experience which is on April 22nd. £25 for WI members
and £30 for guests. (includes coach, visits and a two course lunch at a brewery)
See you on March 4th but if you want to contact me, Pat King (President Buckden WI), meantime please do:-

February weekends at the Village Hall saw the return of the East Anglian Bull Terriers for their first show of
2014, several children’s parties, our Tabletop Sale (fully booked with 50 tables/spaces booked at the time of
writing), a Jivenites dance weekender and St Mary’s Charity Auction. During the working weeks we hosted a
large Conference for 170 delegates, 2 Acupuncture courses and a County Council Training Day.
The main hall is looking fantastic – with the walls freshly painted and the old red window curtains re-
placed with cream blinds
. We are looking forward to the re-polishing of the wooden floor in May, which will
complete this phase of our ‘revamp’. If you are considering any form of celebration, and are looking for a ven-
ue, do call in and have a look. Remember – we have discounts for Buckden residents!
As always, we are open to suggestions for new uses for the Hall, and we have been looking at the possibility
of setting up a
Cinema Club
. As our knowledge of this is limited in the extreme, we are asking for anyone in
the Village who could help in setting this up. If you are interested, please contact Rachel at the Hall.
Room Available for Lease
:
Following the end of a successful rental, the Aragon Room is now available to
lease. 35 sq m with Wifi and separate entrance, it is ideal as an office, PT space, or other ventures. Further
details and rates on application to the Village Hall.
Finally, don’t forget our
Spring Food Fair on the 29
th
of March
. A wide range of local producers showcasing
delicious food, drink, kitchen and bakeware, Easter goodies and refreshments. Do come along and support
both local businesses and the Village Hall.
