You are invited toa display of 100 years history of Diddington, withemphasis on theCentenary ofWW1and
thosewho served. At the outbreak ofWW1 inAugust 1914 the percentage of men fromDiddingtonwho enlisted
was higher than other neighbouring villages, 18menwere in theHuntingdonshireCyclists and a total of 36men
joined regiments to fight during theperiodofWar. Therewill be displayswhich includemen from our threeother
benefices, their regiments and also of the 20menwho left theHuntingdonshireCountyPolice to fight. As the
total strengthof thePolice forcewas at this time only60men it would have causedaproblem to loseone thirdof
the total force.

10.00 a.m. to 4.00p.m. eachday
with freeentrance but
Donations
towards the upkeep of theChurchwill bemost welcome.
Youwill bemost welcome to join in anydiscussion about your ancestor’s involvement in theWar or theVillage,
bring along theirmedals! Therewill bea cupof NAAFI tea and a sliceof homemade cake free to those attending

1st Southoe & Buckden Scouts would like to thank
the Roundabout Team and everyone who support-
ed our Annual Jumble Sale this year. We raised a
record £1200 which was only made possible
through your generous donations and goodwill. The
money raised will be put towards activities for Bea-
vers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, and for upkeep
of the Scout Hut. We are very lucky to have such
good supporters in the village andwe appreciate all
thehelp you give us.
WorldWar 1commemorationevents
Tomark the start ofWorldWar 1as adatewhich changed both the lives of manyand the future of the country
therewill be a special commemoration inSt. Mary’sChurch on 3rdAugust at 7pm. Theeveningwill include read-
ings of thosewhoexperienced thewar, poetryof theWar Poets, songs of the time and to concludewith anAct of
Remembrance.
Moredetails later but if anyone has special personal mementos – letters, photos, medals etc –we plan to have a
small exhibitionon the same day tomakea clear connectionwith thosewho served fromBuckden.
