Lazy Circles in the Sky – A Lifetime in Conservation

The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust invites

you to the first of our 2019 talks on Wednesday 9

th

January.

As usual this will be held at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrap-

ston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB, starting at 7.30pm.

Our speaker will be Jim Stevenson, who is known locally as the

Senior Ranger for Huntingdonshire District Council, based

mainly at Paxton Pits. Jim’s background is in education and

nature conservation with various bodies such as the RSPB, the

Wildfowl Trust and Birdlife International. In 2012 he won the

BBC Wildlife Magazine Award ‘Nature Writer of the Year’.

Tonight Jim will talk to us about his experiences throughout

his career in conservation and I am sure he will provide an

entertaining and fascinating evening.

is not necessary. The entrance charge is £2.50 (accompanied

children free). For more information please contact Tim on

Buckden Neighbourhood Watch

Bogus Charity Collectors

Christmas is a time of giving but there are criminals who take

advantage of our good will. An example of this, reported to

police, is individuals knocking on doors allegedly canvassing

for money for the Child Brain Injury Trust. The organisation is

based in Oxfordshire and does not carry out door to door re-

quests for charitable donations.

Fraudsters use the name of genuine and often well-known

charities to obtain money, and sadly this becomes more com-

mon at this time of year. The police advise residents not to

buy at the door. If you wish to give to charity, please ensure

that you are able to make an informed choice, in your own

time and be absolutely certain that you are giving to a genu-

ine cause. To read more Action Fraud advice on this subject

please go to http://ow.ly/sivr30m1X91

Always install the latest software and app updates

Cyber-criminals can use weaknesses in software and apps to

attack your devices and steal your identity. Software updates

are designed to fix these weaknesses and installing them as

soon as possible will keep your devices and data secure. Soft-

ware updates don’t have to get in the way of what you’re do-

ing. You can choose to install them at night when your device

is plugged in and connected to the internet. You can also con-

figure most devices to automatically install software and app

updates.
