Front Cover

This month’s cover photograph is of a fieldfare in the snow

and was provided by Peter Sharpe. As ever, we are very grate-

ful.

We would very much like to include more paintings of village

scenes on the front cover - we are able to photograph them

so do contact us if you have something we could use. We are

always looking for photos, images, drawings and paintings so

please keep sending them in. Please note that photos should

ideally be in portrait format and should be a

minimum

of

2400 x 1700 pixels. More is better!

January 2019

We continue our regular quarterly series of wildlife articles by

Mark Ward, Buckden resident and RSPB’s editor-in-chief, with

an article about RSPB’s Birdwatch, and lichens and brambles

on page 10. We are lucky to live so close to the countryside

and be able to enjoy such a wide range of wildlife on our

doorsteps, in our village and in our gardens.

Every month we dedicate several pages to upcoming events in

the village, but some of the regular events, the ones that hap-

pen every week, get less publicity. So on page 4 we are pub-

lishing a Regular Events schedule, where we have drawn to-

gether all of the regular Buckden events in one convenient

place. You can also find the Regular Events on our website at

https://www.buckdenroundabout.info/what-s-happening/

regular-event-schedule

. If you are running a regular event in

the village and we have left you out, or if you want to update

your details, please contact the editor.

This month, Buckden Rainbows, Buckden Junior Football Club,

Buckden Local History Society and the Roundabout itself are

all advertising for volunteers. These are all worthwhile organi-

sations that benefit the village. If you have a few hours to

spare do consider helping - it is rewarding to do something

that benefits the village and our fellow residents.

We have held our advertising rates constant for three years,

but increases in printing costs mean we must make a modest

increase to cover our costs. See page 17 for our new rates.

We wish all our readers a happy and healthy 2019!

Please remember to visit the Roundabout website. There are

often articles there that we could not fit into the print edition,

as well as information that arrives during the month:
