BUCKDEN NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

FACEBOOK

Please be aware of some of the posts you comment on. Beware of the ones who ask your favourite teacher’s name, your child-

hood best friend, where you were born, your favourite place or your first pet.

Posted as ‘getting to know you’ questions, these are the same security questions asked when setting up accounts. As the securi-

ty questions change so will the getting to know you questions change.

Hackers can then build a profile of you from several different data sources and they can then use this information to open ac-

counts or lines of credit in your name. This trend started in USA and is now becoming an issue in the UK.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS FOR AN ADVANCE FEE

Individuals and businesses are being warned by E-Cops to watch out for cold calls and online contact from fraudsters who are

offering victims the opportunity to apply for Government grants for an advance fee. To make the grants look legitimate, fraud-

sters have set up bogus companies and convincing–looking websites that claim to be operating on behalf of the UK Govern-

ment.

Be wary of unsolicited callers implying that you can apply for grants, You should never have to pay to receive a government

grant, and legitimate bodies definitely won’t instruct you to obtain a pre-paid credit card.

Dormice

Our second meeting for 2018 will be held on Wednesday 14

th

February. As usual this will take place at 7.30pm at Brampton

Memorial Hall, Thrapston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB.

Our topic will be ‘Dormice’ and the talk will be given by Ian White of the Peoples Trust for Endangered Species, and Gwen Hitch-

cock, who is responsible for dormouse monitoring for our Trust. Ian has been involved with the introduction of Dormice

throughout the UK and he monitors both nationally and locally. Ian will reveal the secret lives of these enchanting animals and

the progress that has been made with their re-introductions.

This should be a really interesting talk for anyone interested in wildlife. Everyone is most welcome to attend. Booking is not

necessary. Entrance charge £2.50 (accompanied children free). Please contact Tim on 01480 457795 for more information.
