Buckden Parish Council News...

Fund raising success

The Parish Council is very pleased to announce that Cllr Betty Millard has been successful in gaining a grant of £8000

towards the resurfacing of the children’s playground on the Village Field. The Council will fund the remainder of the

work due to start in early 2018. This will mean that the playground will be then fully compliant with the latest safety

guidelines.

Well done to Betty!

Council elections in 2018

Elections for the Parish Council will take place on 3rd May 2018, if required. In recent years, we have not had to hold

an election as there have never been more candidates than places on the Council – it would be a reflection of the

energy and sense of community, felt by so many in our parish, if we could reverse this trend.

If you think that you would like to contribute to your community, and would like to know more about what being a

parish councillor involves, please contact the Clerk to the Council at the address below and she will put you in touch

with a councillor who will tell you all about the job. With the cutbacks at district and county level, the Council is fac-

ing interesting times and, potentially, some difficult decisions. You can play your part in this decision-making by join-

ing the Council. Application forms for the Council will be available by 19

th

March.

Citizens Advice for Rural Cambs

We are pleased to tell you that Buckden, Stirtloe and Diddington now come under Citizens Advice for Rural Cambs.

The Parish Council recently gave a grant of £500 to this organisation to help it with its work.

Ownership and management of trees in the village.

There have recently been a number of issues raised by villagers in relation to trees. Not all trees are the responsibil-

ity of the Parish Council. Trees in the village may have been planted and be the responsibility of the Cambridgeshire

County Council, Huntingdonshire County Council or Buckden Parish Council. In addition, trees may have been plant-

ed by developers or in some cases so called “guerrilla” planters who see a plot of land and decide to plant a tree.

The Clerk holds a definitive map of the trees which are Buckden Parish Council’s responsibility if you have a query

regarding a tree or trees. Once the responsible body is identified the following contacts are recommended:
