Buckden Roundabout

December 2017

School & Pre-School

As I write this, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – even

though it’s not even mid-November! The children have begun

practising songs for our upcoming Christmas play, Whoops-A-

Daisy Angel, and we’re looking forward to the Christmas Lights

event on 3

rd

December, where this year we will be helping San-

ta in his grotto at The Vine! Please join us - Santa will be in the

grotto from 2-5pm with a break from 3.45-4.15, as he's switch-

ing on the lights.

The half-term break was very busy. Not only did we have our

very successful Halloween party, which raised £265, but we

also reorganised the internal layout of preschool. All the old

units in the quiet room were ripped out and a smart new kitch-

en area has been built in the main playroom. We must thank

Howden’s for their generous donation of the units, and Peter

Carter and Lester O’Driscoll for all their hard work. Our final

charity fundraising totals for October were £31 for Jeans for

Genes and £36 for Macmillan. Thanks to everyone who sup-

ported our events and bought lots and lots of cake!

In November, the children enjoyed Hero/Pudsey week and of

course making wonderful firework pictures, as well as making

some wonderful poppies and learning about why we wear

them. They’re now busy making Christmas decorations and

have already written letters to Santa, which Miss Sam will be

addressing to the North Pole and posting in Huntingdon Post

Office.

At the end of the year, we always take the opportunity to

thank the many people who have supported us. Huge thanks

go to our committee, who do so much for Preschool, and all

those who volunteer their time and resources. We would also

like to thank Buckfest, Nisa and Emily Jane at the Flower Bou-

tique for their generous donations, and Pat King and Pauline

Coker who so often support us and entertain the children at

our events.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

O

ctober/November 2017

We had our Harvest Service at St Marys Church. It is the first

service of the school year at church, and the first visit to

church for a school assembly by our Reception children. The

children brought gifts of tinned food which has been donated

to the Godmanchester Community Foodbank. Thank you to

our parents for their generous donations.

A group of Year 6 children visited Normandy, France on a resi-

dential visit. Whilst in France they visited the World War 1

battlefields, the towns of Rouen and Dieppe and visited a

chocolate factory, a cheese and farm and a cider factory.

They were very lucky with the weather long spells of sunshine

were experienced. Everyone had a fun, interesting, but tiring

visit. The children who stayed at school have also had a fun

week with a variety of exciting activities including blackberry

picking, their ‘bounty’ used to make apple and blackberry

crumbles, and going bug hunting on the school field. Follow-

ing the visit to the Lochnagar Crater in the Somme the Year 6

children decided to raise money to put a plaque at the memo-

rial. To raise money Year 6 sold beautifully decorated poppy

biscuits to the rest of the school.

Our Year 5/6 children visited Ely Cathedral for the Cathedral

Schools Day. Children from many different church schools

gather at the cathedral to have an activity filled day. Every-

one had a fantastic and informative day.

The PTA hosted a MacMillan Tea and Cake afternoon. Our

parents provided a wonderful selection of cakes. We had a

brilliant turn out and raised £133.58 for the MacMillan Cancer

charity. For Children in Need Day we all came to school

dressed in our onesies. Even some of the staff dressed up for

the day. The money raised was sent to the Children in Need

charity.

If your child is born between 1

st

September 2013 and 31

st

Au-

gust 2014 and is due to start school in September 2018, appli-

cations opens on 16

th

November 2017. You can apply on line

or the school has paper copies of the application form.
