Buckden Roundabout

December 2017

BUCKDEN WI

At our November meeting Amanda was welcomed back again for a cookery demonstration on Italian

cuisine. Amanda made

Cavatelli

pasta using three ingredients. As she was demonstrating Amanda was

giving tips on uses of pasta. She also made a tomato sauce encouraging us to freeze some to use on oth-

er dishes such as pizza. Members were encouraged to taste the cavatelli and tomato sauce. Amanda en-

couraged the members to make pasta with children, as it encourages children into healthy eating habits

and is a fun activity to do although a little messy.

Amanda told us of her visits to the Arthur Rank Hospice and to Sawtry Village College where she teaches cookery. Amanda finds

pasta making therapeutic and when she invites friends for dinner they end up pasta making, which makes it into a fun evening.

A good speaker in a relaxed atmosphere.

At the next Meeting Tuesday 5

th

December 7:30pm at Buckden School hall it is our fish and chip evening and, also to elect our

committee for the coming year.

The competition is a Christmas stocking.

Bookings

We have several Christmas parties in the Hall this month, a yoga day and a wedding reception on top of all our usual hirers

this month. In November we looked after a total of 153 bookings!

Falls Prevention Assessments

Everyone Health (part of ChangePoint Lifestyle Services) is offering 1-1 appointments for individuals aged 50+ who may have

a fear of falling, have previously had a fall or just would like to increase their physical activity level. Their mission is to pro-

vide an accessible service that helps reduce the risk of falls, trips and slips in the community. The team aims to help each

individual to identify and address any risks before they become a problem by conducting assessments, as well as prescribing

home-based strength and balance exercise programmes. They are running these assessments here at the Village Hall so if

you would like any further information please contact Change Point on 0333 005 0093.

New fencing around children’s play area

There is new and improved fencing around the children’s play area on the playing field. Many thanks to everyone who

bought a Buckden Village Festival raffle ticket as the proceeds of the raffle have gone towards this fencing.

Safety signs and buoyancy aids around the Valley

As mentioned last month, the Trust has purchased two ‘No Swimming’ signs and two buoyancy aids which have been fitted

around the Valley for the safety of the community. These have been purchased as the insurers demanded it. It appears

that someone wanted to have a closer look at the buoyancy aids and in so doing broke the security tags that are there to

stop the doors blowing open. The tags have been

replaced but a message to the curious – please leave them

alone!

Basketball Hoops

Two basketball hoops have been installed on the 5-a-side pitch. These were funded by Tesco's Bags of Help scheme so a big

thank you to them. These are for everyone to enjoy!

2017 has been another busy year for us at Buckden Village Hall. Thank you to everyone who has used us in the past year

and to all of you who will use us in the future.
