NEIGHBOURHOODWATCH (NHW)
Local Crime.
Buckden suffered no serious crime incidents
during February although the surrounding are-
as, especially the towns of Huntingdon, St Ne-
ots and St Ives experienced over 30 burglaries
and a large increase in shed and garagebreak-
ins.
The latter is not unexpected as thieves focus
on garden equipment as we (hopefully) ap-
proach summer. Garden sheds are difficult to
protect as they are often remote from the house
and fitted with frail doors. Hinges and hasps
should be securedwith screwswhich cannot be
undone and robust locks.
Crime reporting.
The newNW alert system provides your coordi-
nators with prompt information about serious
crime incidentswhich is forwarded to those res-
idents who have provided us with their eMail
address. However, details of minor incidents
such as anti-social behaviour, some vehicle
crime and aggressive cold-calling are not re-
ceived until much later. It would help us to alert
the village quickly to any new crime pattern if
residents could notify us of any such incidents.

The Boundary Commission for England will be
starting a review of theCountyCouncil divisions
in Cambridgeshire. This has been triggered pri-
marily by the large amount of development in
the county which has given rise to large vari-
ances between some of the county council divi-
sions. The review will look at 2 areas within
county council electoral boundaries. Firstly the
reviewwill look at what is the correct number of
county councillors for Cambridgeshire and sec-
ondly where the boundary lines are drawn. The
review will take into consideration predicted
growth and development up to 5 years into the
future and uses the data from the 2012 electoral
registers. When considering where boundary
lines should be drawn, the Boundary Commis-
sion will try to take into account Parish andDis-
trict boundaries, although neither Parish or Dis-
trict boundaries are currently under review in
Cambridgeshire. In reviewing the size of the
council the boundary commission are hoping to
address effective governance and decision
making of the council and the representational
role of county councillors. And reviewing elec-
toral divisional boundaries will give electoral
equality for voters, address community interests
and identities and provide amore effective local
government. The new county council divisions
will come into effect at the next county council
elections due in 2017. Residents should re-
member that registering for election is not done
automatically if youmove house.
