The Wild World of Birds: Understanding Intelligence and Behaviour

The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust invites you to a presentation on the behaviour of birds on Wednesday

14th November 2018 at 7.30pm. This will be held at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrapston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB.

Our speaker will be Dr. Gabrielle Davidson who is a comparative psychologist and behavioural ecologist. Dr. Davidson has stud-

ied birds, particularly corvids and great tits, to try to understand their level of intelligence and associated behaviours, demon-

strated by the use of observation to aid foraging opportunities and nesting location, and also the use of tools.

This should be a fascinating talk and anyone who is interested is most welcome to attend. Booking is not necessary. The en-

trance charge is £2.50 (accompanied children free). For more information please contact Tim on 01480 457795.

There are times in our lives when we could all do with a little extra support

or companionship whatever our age or circumstances.

Twenty-five people attended the Friends in Deed AGM on 10

th

October and we had lots to report and talk about. The Com-

mittee had been busy discussing the future of Friends in Deed - how we could widen our scope in reaching out to help the peo-

ple of Buckden, and continue with the same spirit and enthusiasm which has characterised Friends in Deed since it started back

in 2009. After the AGM our guest speaker, Mark Ward, from the RSPB and a Buckden resident, gave us an excellent illustrated

talk on our prolific local wildlife.

So, as well as our core activities of visiting people at home and providing transport to essential appointments……

We have a new logo (see above).

Look out for our new posters around the village.

Our Community Café (the new name for the Drop-in Café) runs every month on the 2

nd

Wednesday and is open to

all regardless of age, gender, faith (or no faith), sexual orientation, ethnicity or beliefs. Come along for help and

support (if you need it) or just for a cuppa, cake and a chat.

We can signpost to professional agencies such as foodbank, debt agencies, citizens advice and have other infor-

mation available to help point you in the right direction.

To contact us: Just drop in to the Community Café which we run on the 2

nd

Wednesday of each month in the Living Stones

Room at St Mary’s Church Buckden. The next one is on 14

th

November and you would be most welcome to join us.

If you do need help or if you would like to join us in providing help to others, please call our co-ordinator, Jane, on 07810

006598. For transport requests, please call Andy on 07914 669967.

Leave a message on either number and we will call you back.

Pilates with Julie

Pilates has so many health benefits. It is a synergistic activity, activating your physical strength and mental well-being. It im-

proves flexibility, co-ordination, reduces stress and has a whole body approach. Pilates looks at posture which can alleviate long

-term back pain, enhance breathing and improve quality of life.

Classes are held in the main hall at Buckden Village Hall on Thursday mornings at 9.45am and at Buckden Waterside Marina on

Monday mornings at 9.30am. Each class lasts for one hour and includes a warm up as well as finishing with relaxation stretches.

Most bring their own mats but there are some available in the room. Many find a small towel useful and all bring their own wa-

ter bottle.

Pilates is aimed for everyone, whatever your age or ability. Each exercise has adaptations for all levels and participants are

offered three levels of difficulty to choose from depending on their experience.
