Buckden Roundabout
November 2018
School & Pre-school
As I write in the second week of October, autumn is being
kind to us and the children have enjoyed plenty of sunny
trips to the park. Hopefully the sun will still be shining on
19
th
October for our sponsored ramble to Diddington and
back in aid of Children in Need. Find out how much we
raised in December’s issue!
Indoors, the children have enjoyed music and movement
sessions with Pauline Coker and we are very grateful for her
time. They’ve also completed their half-term theme of
thinking about themselves, where they live, their families
and pets and staying safe. Preschool is looking very autum-
nal, with lots of beautiful translucent leaves and Halloween
decorations, but we’re already looking forward to Christ-
mas! The children have used their footprints to make Christ-
mas cards and we are already planning a return visit to the
popular Santa Train at Nene Valley Railway.
Our coffee afternoon and guess the number of sweets in the
jar competition in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support raised
£85. The winner was ex-Preschooler and maths genius Aus-
tin Pape with his guess of 207! Well done Austin, and thank
you to everyone who donated cakes or supported the
event.
Finally, an urgent request
.
Many of you will be aware that we are a charity-run Pre-
school and this means that legally, our operations must be
overseen by a committee with a minimum number of mem-
bers. Our committee member numbers are now worryingly
low, so we are again appealing for members to ensure Pre-
school can stay open.
You don’t need to commit a great
deal of time to be a committee member, nor do you need
to be related to a child who attends.
If you would like a no-obligation chat about what’s involved,
please contact Becky Milne, our Chairperson, at
buckden-
preschoolchairperson@gmail.com
.
For any other enquiries or to book a visit, please contact our
manager, Sam Sinclair, at

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
October 2018
It doesn’t seem possible that we are now approaching October
half term. All our new Reception children, and the new chil-
dren to our school, have settled into the school routines and
look as if they’ve been here for much longer than they actually
have!!
We are all making the most of the lovely weather. We are con-
tinuing to use the school field for our games and PE lessons. A
few of our Year 6 children have been to our allotment to tidy it
up before the winter months set in. After half term we will
start preparing for the pre-Christmas programme, starting to
practise for the Christmas plays and carol services.
On the 5
th
and 6
th
November we are having open afternoons for
the parents and children who will be starting school in Septem-
ber 2019. The school will be open from 2.00 pm – 3.00 pm.
Please come along anytime in this period to meet us all. These
visits are very informal. You will be given a tour of the school
by our Year 6 house captains, and have the opportunity to talk
to our Foundation Stage teacher. If your child is born between
1
st
September 2014 and 31
st
August 2015 and is due to start
school in September 2019, the date for applications opens on
1
st
November 2018. You can apply on line or the school has
paper copies of the application form.
Foodbank Christmas Hampers.
I shall again be collecting donations this year for the Christ-
mas Hampers which are distributed by Godmanchester
Foodbank to families in the local area. As well as every day
items such as tins & packets of food they ask for some nice
Christmas treats such as chocolates, biscuits, etc especially
ones for children.
You have all been so generous in the past it would be great
if our village can contribute to these much needed hampers
again.
I will need your donations by the 7th December. Please
contact me on 07730478290 to arrange delivery.
Many thanks Jo Redwood.
