Buckden Roundabout
November 2018
You’ll have seen changes at Buckden Library over the past
few months, shelving has been moved to allow for ease of
access, allowing a central social seating area to be created,
ideal for those who would like to browse books before they
borrow, the self service machine has been relocated to the
corner by the entrance door with a table next to it so that
books can be stacked there while the last ones are checked
out.
This has allowed space for a more dynamic display area
which is being developed by one of the library volunteers.
The library has celebrated Votes for women, 100 years of the
RAF with a new display under construction about the history
of Buckden village. When you drop in to the library do make
time to have a look at the photographs and maybe borrow a
book from the local history collection.
New books are arriving regularly, with additions to the range
of Adult fiction, non-fiction and children’s books. October
additions include Jacqueline Wilson’s My mum, Tracy Beaker,
a new Michael Morpurgo book called Poppy Field in support
of the British Legion, new adult fiction by Chris Carter, Alice
Hoffman, Conn Iggudden, Alexander McCall Smith and JD
Robb.
Activities at the library continue with the celebration of the
Summer Reading Challenge for children when over 30 chil-
dren received their medals and certificates. Well done to all.
The next reading campaign is called Reading for Health. If you
would like to discover more about how to manage a mental
health condition come along and browse through the health
and fitness section.
If you would like to know more about the regular activities in
the library for children and adults then drop in to see us
(we’re next to the front door of Buckden Village Hall) or have
a look at our regular panel in of The Roundabout.

Buckden Neighbourhood Plan
Are you worried about development?
Help us plan the future of our village.
We need your input!
Buckden Parish Council is producing a Neighbourhood Plan.
This is critical for the future of our village.
It will help us influence future planning applications.
Please go on line at
www.buckdenparishcouncil.org.uk
and
complete the questionnaire. Paper copies are available in the
Village Hall, local shops and hotels. If necessary, call 07557
025241 and we will arrange to deliver one to you.
What a neighbourhood plan does:
•
Sets out planning policies for the village and allows the
local community to specify what they expect for the
future.
•
Written by the local community, NOT the Local Planning
Authority
•
Local planning authorities and planning inspectors must
take account of the plan
•
It has statutory recognition
It will include:
•
Required improvements to infrastructure e.g. roads, rail,
public transport
•
Meeting village needs for affordable, sustainable hous-
ing for young and old
•
Meeting village needs in education and medical care
•
Improvements e.g. public spaces, amenities and cycle
paths
•
Protection of wild life, historic buildings, open spaces
•
Preserving Buckden as a village community
•
Long term sustainable development for current and
future generations
