VILLAGE NEWS

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (NHW)

LOCAL CRIME

In the St Neots Sector two burglaries were reported

between 23

rd

and 30

th

March. In Buckden, close to the

A1, one occurred on the evening of Saturday 27

th

March. A rear ground-floor window was found open

and cash was stolen. The second crime also occurred

on the evening of Saturday 27

th

March. On this occa-

sion a rear ground-floor window was smashed to gain

entry and an iPad was stolen. In the week 30

th

March

– 7

th

April no dwelling burglaries were reported in

Buckden.

TRUNK ROAD CRIME

Whilst driving you are flagged down by a man (or men)

next to a broken down vehicle. The man states that he

needs money to get petrol. As payment the man offers

one to three ‘’gold‘’ rings or offers a business card.

However the rings are worthless and definitely not pre-

cious. The business card is a fake. The amount of

cash taken is between £20 and £300. The offence is

occurring on A roads and slip roads.

TELEPHONE CALLS

You may receive a telephone call from someone pur-

porting to be calling from your internet provider advis-

ing that, because you have down-loaded some stuff

from the internet, you had introduced some viruses

into your system .It would take half an hour to get rid

of the viruses.

Under no circumstances would your provider call you

about this. This is a scam call; if you log onto your

computer the scammers would have had access to all

of your information – financial and otherwise.

Another telephone scam; if you receive a telephone

call allegedly from your bank do not under any circum-

stances pass on bank details over the telephone. No

bank or provider will request your account number or

password. If you change an existing agreement they

will use the details on the present direct debit or stand-

ing order.

Contacts

Report an incident or suspicious behaviour to the new

single non-emergency number 101. Call 999 if a crime

is in progress or threatened.

Paranormal Buckden?

From: Mark Egerton

( markegerton10@hotmail.co.uk )

I am currently writing a book about the old county of Huntingdonshire, with particular regard to its history,

hauntings and legends. I would very much like to include the village of Buckden within the book and I would be

very interested to hear from any Buckden residents who have had a paranormal experience anywhere within the

village. I am particularly interested in Buckden Towers and the Lucks Lane vicinity.

I can be contacted via the e-mail address above and I will happily drive to Buckden in order to speak to you and

take details.
