Village News

Village Choir: Calling All Tenors

I have felt compelled to write this small article after two

recent, chance meetings with villagers in my local hostelry,

The Lion. I like my beer and I like to sing, two facts that I

don’t hide, and they are well known amongst my drinking

companions. However, I was surprised during those two

conversations, when explaining that I direct the Village

Choir, by their identical responses. “What village choir?”

“The Aragon Singers!” I cried. “The Aragon Singers of Buck-

den! Surely you’ve heard of them?”

Blank faces. “Yes, we do have a village Choir and have done

so for 33 years.”

There are currently 42 of us, men and women, who meet

once a week purely for the sake of enjoying a good sing

together. Our repertoire includes a wide range of music:

sacred and secular, old and new, serious and more light-

hearted.

You now know our name and if you keep your ears open as

you pass the Methodist Church on a Monday evening you

might hear us rehearsing. You will hear us if you come to St

Mary’s Church during the evening of Saturday, April 13

when we will be singing for our benefit and for yours.

We are recruiting gentlemen, particularly tenors, to join the

choir. For more information, please contact us via our web-

site: http://www.thearagonsingers.btck.co.uk/, and we will

get back to you. We look forward to welcoming you.

Yes, we do boast a Village Choir.
