BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
March 2017
February is always one of our quieter months at school. The
children have been working hard, many of them preparing for
their tests in the summer term.
This month Safety Internet Awareness has been highlighted to
the children in school. This is a global initiative with the
theme ‘Be the change : unite for a better internet’. The chil-
dren have been learning how to stay safe on the internet –
and our parents came into school so they could see what the
children had been learning about how to stay safe. Many of
you may have seen our Facebook post – it reached over
160,000 people worldwide in less than 24 hours. This was an
exercise to demonstrate to the children how easy it is to ac-
cess information using social networking.
The children in our Gardening Club are planning to build a
greenhouse using plastic bottles.
We are collecting 2-litre
plastic bottles, preferably clear although green bottles will be
acceptable. We need about 1500 bottles for this project.
Although our collection is growing – we now have nearly 300
bottles - we still need another 1200 bottles. If residents of
the village have any plastic pop bottles we could use for this
project we would be grateful for all donations. Please bring
your empty, washed bottles to the school office. Thank you.

The school is also collecting the Sainsbury’s ‘Active Kids’
vouchers. We are aiming to have a record collection this year
which will enable us to buy sports equipment for the school.
If you do shop in Sainsburys, please collect the vouchers and
bring them into the school office. All donations will be grate-
fully received. Thank you.
In the last month, we’ve been fighting off the winter blues at
preschool with brightly coloured crafts. Learning about Chi-
nese New Year gave the children an opportunity to make red
money envelopes and beautiful red and gold Chinese lanterns.
The red theme continued as we moved on to making Valen-
tine’s Day decorations and talking about who we love – and
what makes them so lovable!
Talking of love, the preschool staff and committee certainly
feel it for all those who support preschool in any way, so
thank you for your donations of Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouch-
ers, which we will be collecting for some time. Many thanks to
Nisa for once again hosting a voucher collection box for us,
making it easier for those of you who don’t come into Pre-
school to donate your vouchers.
On a less happy note, we’ve had some issues with vandalism
recently and will be installing a CCTV system shortly to com-
bat this problem and help identify the culprits. It’s sad that
this has proved necessary – as a charity run preschool, I’m
sure everyone can appreciate we have better things to do
with our time and money. In the meantime, can we ask that if
you see anyone on our balcony interfering with or causing
damage to our building or property, you report it either to us
or to Jo Harvey, the Millennium Centre manager. Thank you!
Looking forward, we will soon be thinking about Mother’s Day
and Easter, with a new sponsored Bunny Bounce (with the
help of a trampoline!) and new Easter Craft Morning planned
on 31
st
March. Hopefully, this will prove as popular as our
Christmas Craft Mornings.
