Silent Spring Revisited – Our Debt to Rachel Carson

For our March meeting, the Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust will present an illustrated talk enti-

tled ‘Silent Spring Revisited – Our Debt to Rachel Carson’. This will be held on Wednesday 11

th

March starting at

7.30pm at Brampton Memorial Centre, Thrapston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB.

Author and conservationist, Conor Mark Jameson, will talk about the rise of environmentalism since Silent Spring

was written in 1962 by Rachel Carson. Conor will give an entertaining tour of the highs and lows of 50 years of

campaigning to keep the birds singing and the planet secure. Was Carson right, and did we listen?

Anyone interested in wildlife is most welcome to attend. Booking for the talk is not necessary. Entrance charge

£2.50; accompanied children free. Please contact Tim on 01480 457795 for further information.

Part of the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire. Registered Charity No: 1000412

Huntingdon Health Walk Group

If you see a walking group happily walking around the village, chances are that they are part of the Huntingdon-

shire “Health Walkers”. They are walking for about an hour, on various routes, for pleasure, sociability and to help

maintain a basic level of fitness. Some are recuperating, some need to have more exercise and others just want

to keep their weight in check! It's free, fun, and good for the heart!

A new Health Walks brochure appears every 4 months detailing walks in this (Huntingdon) area and 5 other ad-

joining areas, which go out to leisure centres, libraries, hospitals, GP surgeries and other outlets; shorter walks

are available too. Walks in the Huntingdon area take place on Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings.

Please contact Danielle Sancaster, the Health Walk Coordinator at HDC, tel. 01480 387047, or through

www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk/healthwalks. Please give it a try, you may like it!

Breakfast A Sizzling Success

A massive thank you to everyone who helped or

supported the Scouts at the Cooked Breakfast in

January. A team of 20 Scouts worked extremely

hard and managed to prepare over 130 full break-

fasts over the course of 3 hours, raising the amazing

amount of £663.The washing up took a bit longer!

Particular thanks to Days of Buckden for their contin-

ued support.

The Children’s Society

Box Holders

A big thank you for all your generous contributions to the Society. This opening you collected £1,468.19 and in

November we sent in £200 from box holders who have moved from the village, so our yearly total is another rec-

ord total of £1,668.19. Well done everyone and thanks
