Hopefully by the time you read this, the weather will be

less changeable, and all of Miss Estelle’s PE sessions with

the school leavers will be outside in the sun. These ses-

sions help them get used to more organised physical activ-

ities and the tricky business of getting themselves

dressed! The children have also been enjoying focussed

(but fun!) French lessons, circuits, and literacy, numeracy

and pencil control sessions, and have also had plenty of

free time to enjoy all the activities Preschool has to offer –

such as dancing around the wonderful Maypole created by

Miss Denise, making beautiful May wreaths and hunting

for the Shape of the Week.

On to fun and fundraising. First, a huge thank you to

Becky, Heather and Lyndsey, and everyone else who

made their final fundraising event such a success. Their

Old School Jams Disco raised an amazing £502.15! Our

next event is our Teddy Bears’ Picnic, beginning at 11a.m.

in the 26th June. Everyone is welcome, so bring your chil-

dren and a picnic along and join us on the field for fun and

face painting! We will also be having stalls at the village

festival and Buckfest, and would be grateful for any dona-

tions of nail varnish, white tiles and items for our tombola.

Miss Sam has also put out a last call for any Sainsbury’s

vouchers; we have until mid June to collect them, so

please check for any still lurking in the bottom of your

purses and wallets.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF ENG-

LAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

May 2015

This has been a very busy, but short half term. The chil-

dren in Years 6 and 2 have been sitting their SATS tests.

They have been very busy in class preparing for the tests

and have now completed them.

During this half term we have continued with our class

assemblies – the Huskies and Tigers classes have had

their assemblies. Our Year 4 children went on their resi-

dential visit to the Kingswood Centre at West Runton in

Norfolk. The children took part in a wide variety of activi-

ties throughout each day. These varied from climbing up

and down ropes, caving to archery and taking part in field

games and team challenges. Everyone came home very

tired including the accompanying staff, Mrs Jaynes, Mrs

Bond and Mrs Lawson.

Our Year 5 children visited the Safety Zone which is

based at St Neots Fire Station. During the visit the chil-

dren were given advice by local police officers and

PCSO’s, representatives from the Fire Service, Environ-

mental Health, Road Safety Offices and St John’s Ambu-

lance officers on personal safety. It was an informative

afternoon for both the children and the teachers who ac-

companied them. The children in Reception and Key

Stage 1 visited Shepreth Wildlife Park. This visit was the

culmination of their topic work. While at the park they

were able to see the animals and also take part in a work-

shop about animal habitats and how they adapt to living

in them.

Buckden is a beacon school for music and in this role our

Year 3, 4 and 5 children attended a Musical Extravagan-

za at Wood Green Animal Shelter with other beacon

schools for music. They spent the day playing their musi-

cal instruments and singing, in preparation for a musical

concert attended by their parents.

Our sports teams have been very busy over the past few

weeks. The Year 5/6 football team played in the final of

the Medium Schools Spring Tournament against Bury

School and won 4: 1 after a hard fought game. A team of

cross country runners took part in the Huntingdon District

Cross Country Annual event for schools at Priory Park in

St Neots. Both teams did very well. The girls team were

placed 16

th

out of 101 teams and the boys team, 35

th

out

of 128 teams. Our Year 5/6 Netball team played in the

Inter Schools Tournament at Hinchingbrooke School.

Although they did not progress through to the final stages

of the tournament they played very well in the three

matches in their pool. Well done to all team members.

Over the past few weeks we have been improving the area around the school. We have painted fences and outdoor furni-

ture, tidied the school field, planted the raised beds in front of the school and restocked our hanging baskets. Thank you

to all parents who have helped in this endeavour and donated materials. This is an ongoing project – keep an eye out for

further improvements.

We have plenty to look forward to after the half term with our Sports Day, Fathers Day lunch, Year 5/6 play and the end of

term assemblies. We are hoping that the summer brings some good weather for us all to enjoy these events.
