FROM YOUR COUNTY COUNCILLOR

Following on from the Government's announcement recently that the

A14

has been given the go ahead residents

in Buckden will shortly be seeing work starting on the compounds which are to be sited just north of Buckden on

the side of the A1. This will be a construction compound and will be used as one of the bases for the engineers

and staff involved in the construction of the new road.

A second compound is to be built near Godmanchester and it is hoped that most of the construction of the new

A14 Huntingdon southern bypass will take place off line, which means that it should not disrupt the route network.

If you have any questions regarding the construction phase of the A14 please contact me for further information.

Please be advised that residents can come along to the Buckden village hall on the second Tuesday of the month

at 6.30pm for an hour to speak to me. I will be in the Aragon room and no appointment is necessary. My next sur-

gery will be held on

Tuesday 12

th

July 2016

.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

FROM YOUR DISTRICT COUNCILLOR

Devolution

Residents will, no doubt, have read or heard in the media that there are Government plans to devolve some pow-

ers to locally elected mayors. The original plan for us was for an area covering the whole of Norfolk, Suffolk, Cam-

bridge and Peterborough. The view of local authorities was that this would not be a sensible plan and an alterna-

tive has now been proposed. The new Devolution Deal would see the transfer of some powers from Central Gov-

ernment to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The details of the deal are not ready for publication at the time of

writing this report. When they are they will be discussed and a vote taken at a special District Council meeting on

29

th

June. If agreed by all of the local authorities involved Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will establish a Com-

bined Authority with a directly elected Mayor in place by May 2017 with interim arrangements in place in 2016/17.

The new directly elected Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor will act as the Chair to the new Combined Au-

thority. The other members of this board will be nominated by the authorities concerned.

When full details are available and agreed I shall ensure that residents are kept informed.

Hinchingbrooke Hospital

I share residents’ concerns about the future of Hinchingbrooke Hospital. I am a member of the HDC Overview and

Scrutiny Panel (Communities and Environment) and we shall be meeting the CEO of the Hospital on 28

th

June to

discuss the issues raised by residents. As always I shall endeavour to keep you informed.

Sumer is icumen in

or so the calendar tells me. I must admit that I have yet to hear a cuckoo. Hopefully this

means that we shall all be indulging in more outdoor activities. Please consider your neighbours when arranging

parties, barbeques and especially fireworks. Please help us to ensure that the village and our local ROW are kept

clean and welcoming by taking home all of your rubbish and especially any dog poo.

you will help us commemorate the memories of our WW1 heroes.

On Thursday 28th April 2016 the Rotary Club of Kimbolton Castle

was honoured with the presence of Dame Norma Major as the

and Rtn Graham Peace asked the questions with Kathy Peace

controlling the music.

Over 70 persons attended and £700 was raised - £350 for Mencap

and £350 for Rotary Charities. A cheque presentation for Mencap

was made to Dame Norma that evening for £300, but after the

finalisation of the figures the higher amount of £350 was sent.
