BUCKDEN WI
With our President, Ruth Nicholas enjoying the high winds and august company at
the Royal Garden Party Patricia Ford led our monthly meeting. We signed up for
cake making for the Festival Fair on the 6
th
July and then were well entertained by
Rex Freeman on the subject of ‘Growing Old Disgracefully’.
Rex, an ex-teacher and organiser of several Cambridge music festivals, identified
this as remaining involved and having friends and ‘doing’ things instead of imagining
oneself too old to risk it!
This seemed to me to fit Buckden W.I to a T. We continue to live ‘disgracefully’.
Our next meeting will be on 7
th
July, our party night with line dancing! Bring along a plate of nibbles to share with
the rest of your table and the drink of your choice.
The Sales table will carry Garden Items (produce of or items to help that production) and the competition is for a
decorated hat.
Enquiries Judith Armitage 01480 811717.

Buckden Friends
A week was enjoyed at Morecambe mid May
by 46 Buckden Friends. This was our 13
th
holiday.
We enjoyed staying at The Auckland Hotel
that we would highly recommend. The staff
were so helpful and the food excellent.
Each day we went on an excursion. We ex-
plored the Lake Windermere and the beautiful
Lake District scenery. Next day we had a ride
on a steam train with some retail therapy. The
last day we went on the Lune canal to experi-
ence the aqueduct. Sadly we were ship-
wrecked and had to abandon ship but this
meant we saw more of the aqueduct than just
being on it ‘so every cloud….’
We spent a lot of time laughing caused by our
extra passenger Eric the seagull! Lots of noise, singing in the coach and fun and games in the evenings. We
needed to come home for a rest.
Next year we are going for 7 days to Torquay.
If you would like to join our merry band please contact us:- Pat & Brian 07905225911, email
