TheHuntingdonshireLocal Groupof theWildlifeTrust invites you to join them on twodates In July:
OnSunday 13
th
July, wewill be visiting ‘TheElms’ as part of theWildlifeTrust’s ‘Our GardenWildlife’. This unique
garden is owned byour host, RichardShotbolt, and is plantedwith awide range of shrubs, perennials, an arid gar-
den, vegetable plot and small meadow, plus bog and aquatic plants in and around three large ponds that teem
with wildlife. The Elms is situated in Hollow Road, Ramsey Forty Foot, PE26 2YA, GR TL309879. Meet at
10.30am. Please park carefully on the vergeon the north side of HollowRoad.
Our second event is on Sunday 27
th
July at 10.30am to look at the Butterflies andDragonflies at BramptonWood.
The walk will be led by theWarden of BramptonWood, George Cottam, plus other local experts. In July we will
expect to see butterflies such asWhiteAdmiral, MeadowBrown, Gatekeeper, and theSilverWashedFritillary.We
also hope to see dragonflies such as the Broad BodiedChaser and several of the largeHawkers coursing up and
down themain rides.
Please meet at Brampton Wood Car Park, Grafham Road, Brampton at 10.30 am, GR TL 184698. Park in the

VACANCYATTHESOUTHSALMSHOUSES
TheCharitymanagesSouth’s Almshouses andBur-
berry Homes in Church Street, Buckden consisting
of fifteen self-contained flats for singles or couples,
usually over 60 years of age, who live inBuckdenor
who have a close active family relationshipwith res-
idents of Buckden.
The Almshouse flats are unfurnished dwellings,
usually, but not always, designed with the needs of
older people inmind. The aim is to provide conven-
ient and comfortable accommodation in a setting
that allows residents to come and go as they
please. The Almshouse is the resident’s home for
as long as s/he is able to live an independent life.
Residents pay a modest weekly maintenance con-
tribution and, in addition, may receive support from
the statutory authorities. AWarden is there to pro-
vide access to and liaison with these authorities.
Having a Warden also means that, in the event of
anemergency, help can be summonedquickly.

Friendsof BuckdenTowers Plant Sale2014
It was a glorious dayon 17

May – the sun shonebright
thewhole day.Wehada very successful plant sale. 20
nurseries exhibited their plants – themaximumwe could
find room for and therewas agreat variety of plants on
sale. Thegeneral report afterwardswas that theywere
very pleasedwith theday and the the sales they had
made. All those I spoke to said theywouldwant to come
back next year.
Theattendancewas excellent. The car parkingattend-
antswere kept verybusy throughout themorning, getting
well bronzed in theprocess. Theatmospherewas re-
laxed and friendly, whicheveryone appreciated.
Our thanks toTessaCroker andher team of helperswho
produced lovely food in theFriendsRefectory. At one
point customerswere queuingout of the door. Everyone
appreciated the redecoratedRefectorywhich is greatly
improved.
And thanks also toall the volunteerswhogave so gener-
ouslyof their time, helpingwith the car parking, the entry
tickets and putting upand takingdown thegazebos.

Maywe had theAGMwhichwaswell attended. I
was able to give a verypositive report on thepast year
and the plans for the future. Pat Huff, our Treasurer was
able to report that it had beena successful year for fund
raising andoverall funds areonly slightly downdespite
the refurbishment costs.
