NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (NHW)
THE WAY AHEAD FOR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
On the 3rd December 2015, Neighbourhood Watch
National held an event called ‘The Way Ahead for
Neighbourhood Watch‘. The purpose of the event was
to bring together key Neighbourhood Watch contacts
with police colleagues and Police & Crime Commis-
sioners to discuss the direction for Neighbourhood
Watch. To summarize, the need to use technology to
pass on information to warn of criminal activity, to en-
sure the Police & Crime Commissioner office working
with the police, to ensure intelligence gained is used to
reduce crime to protect residents. At the moment this
is at the beginning in order to implement in line with
new strategic plan 2015-2020.
There are examples of national and local organisa-
tions helping to fight crime examples being:
National Pubwatch has made important contri-
bution to reduction in alcohol-related violence.
The scheme enables licensees to take collective
action to ban trouble makers
Cambs Countryside Watch, working in close
partnership with the Cambridgeshire Constabu-
lary, taking part in reducing crime and making
Cambridgeshire a safe place to live in.
There is a need to bring together all partners who wish
to help residents to live in safe and crime free Cam-
bridgeshire.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101
or Crime stoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or

FRIENDS IN DEED
Our Winter Tea Party will be held on Wednesday 10 February and will take place as usual in the
Methodist Hall at 2.30pm. All are welcome and transport will be available on request to collect
and return those who would like a lift to the event – call the transport number below.
The popular ‘Drop-in’ Café in St Mary’s Church is on the second Wednesday of every month –
but not on the 10 February when it will be the Tea Party instead! It runs from 1430 to 1600 in the Living Stones
Room so do come along and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, homemade cakes and a good chat.
We can help out with transport to a variety of locations including dental visits, hospital or surgery appointments
(but not Buckden Surgery, which has its own transport scheme, contact Reception), and village events - if family,
friends or public transport can’t oblige.
If anyone needs support with shopping or errands during bad weather, or is housebound and would like a visit
from one of our volunteers then do give us a call.
For help or information contact:
Coordinator: Jane Scott 07810 006598

BUCKDEN WI
Members met for the first
meeting of 2016 very re-
lieved that a new Treasurer
in the form of Mary Perkins
had been found! Subscrip-
tions of £37.50 are now due
and payable to Mary.
We were enthralled by Wally Thrace who spoke on
bee-keeping, a subject relevant to the W.I. national
campaign to save the honey bee. Wally was enter-
taining and informative, the owner of countless hives.
‘Countless’ as he never knows how many he has as
he deploys them to sites which need plant fertilisa-
tion, the prime job of the bee - the honey is a bonus!
The next meeting is on February 2
nd
when we will be
making jewellery with Cyndy. The competition is for a
favourite brooch and our Bring and Buy Stall will
have items from Paddy Oliver’s flower arranging kit.
