Ouse Fen – Making Britain’s Biggest Reedbed

For our February meeting the Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust will present an illustrat-

ed talk on the Ouse Fen RSPB Reserve. This will be held on Wednesday 11

th

February starting at

7.30pm at Brampton Memorial Centre, Thrapston Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB.

Chris Hudson, who has been the Project Manager for the past seven years, will describe how the RSPB

are working with Hanson on an ambitious scheme to transform a working sand and gravel quarry near

Needingworth into a vast nature reserve with open water, grassland and, when complete, the biggest

reedbed in the UK. He will also tell us how the reserve is already attracting Bitterns, Bearded Tits and

other exciting wildlife. This talk will be followed by an evening Guided Walk to the less visited parts of

the Reserve on 26th June (places on the walk must be booked – this can be done at the meeting).

Anyone interested in wildlife is most welcome to attend. Booking for the talk is not necessary.

Entrance charge £2.50; accompanied children free. Please contact Tim on 01480 457795 for further information.

!!FOR THE ATTENTION OF VILLAGE ORGANISATIONS!!

As you may be aware we have established a dedicated page on the Buckden Roundabout website for

village organisations. We have invited the leaders and coordinators of all village organisations to con-

tact us and tell us what we should include there - whether it be a link to your own website or whether

you would like us to host a page of information on your behalf . Some organisations have already

come forward; I request that those ones that have not yet done so please do. As a reminder the village

organisations page can be found at

http://www.buckdenroundabout.info/village-organisations

As well as this, in a future edition of the Buckden Roundabout itself we would like to give a voice to the

many organisations, clubs and societies that operate in the village. We are proposing that every or-

ganisation provide us with a short article of approx. 150 words. We are expecting that the article will

provide details of what you do and where you do it, and a call for either members to participate or vol-

unteers to help with the running of the society and its activities. However, the article can be about any

aspect of your organisation, and can be for any purpose. We anticipate that, if all organisations come

forward, this will be spread over 2 months. We would like to complete this early in the year - early 2015

editions of the magazine are the ideal time to have these articles present.

Please forward your completed articles, or ask questions, by sending an email to the editorial team at

PETER TEWSON

Christine, Nicola and Jonathan would like to

thank everyone for their love and support during

Peter`s illness.

They were touched by the fact that so many

people attended the funeral in early December

and donated generously to St John`s Hospice,

Moggerhanger.

A NOTE OF THANKS

Tom Elliot, of Cranfield Way, would like to thank

Michelle for coming to his and 3 others rescue.

Waiting for the bus in the pouring rain Tom and

his 3 travelling companions were soaked to the

skin!

Michelle very kindly went and got her car and

drove them to their individual destinations in St

Neots
