NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH (NHW)
Local Crime
Not unexpectedly, levels of crime, especially
burglaries, rose across Huntingdonshire as
Christmas approached. Locally, there was an
attempted burglary in Park Rd in the middle of
the month, damage to a vehicle in the High St
on the 7
th
and property and a BMW were stolen
from Manor Gardens 20
th
/22
nd
of the month.
With the advent of the colder weather, heating
oil has again become a favourite target for
thieves - please ensure that your tank is se-
cured and/or is fitted with an alarm.
The above notes on past crimes necessarily
refer to events over five weeks ago. You can
now receive police alerts and reports almost as
soon as they have been issued by joining the
increasing number of residents who have
signed up to the Neighbourhood Watch Alert
system. Just let one of us have your e-mail ad-
dress: it will not be seen by anyone else. Alt-
hough the system embraces the whole of the
County and includes warnings from many
agencies other than the police, we only forward
those messages which are relevant to the local
area, about two or three a month.
The Silver Line.
A free dedicated help line for older people (to
be called the Silver Line) has been launched by
Esther Rantzen with the aid of a £5m grant
from the Big Lottery fund. It aims to combat
loneliness in the over 65s by providing friend-
ship, information and advice. If you would like
further information, please contact one of us
below.
Contact telephone numbers.
If you wish to report an incident or suspicious
behaviour, please dial the new single non-
emergency number 101. Call 999 if a crime is
in progress or threatened.

FROM YOUR COUNTY COUNCILLOR
Residents may be aware from local papers that
Cambridgeshire County Council, along with all
district and county councils in the country have
some difficult decisions to make regarding the
budget for the next few years. Cambridgeshire
is fortunate in that it is a progressive county and
it is one of the few counties that actually raises
revenue for the government. Although this
means that as a county with a fast growing pop-
ulation through immigration and birth rates, the
budget is put under greater strain from demo-
graphic pressures as well as reduced govern-
ment funding. Unfortunately one of our local
amenities that we could lose if the budget from
County Council were cut is the Cromwell muse-
um. As a member of the Cromwell museum
management committee I am obviously op-
posed to such a measure that would result in
the loss of not only a local tourist attraction but
also of national and arguably international im-
portance. The museum was established in 1962
and is arguably the only tourist attraction in
Huntingdon. If you feel as I do that the loss of
the Cromwell museum in Huntingdon would be
a huge shame then please show your support
for the museum by either visiting the museum
and making a donation, joining the Friends of
the Cromwell museum or writing to County
Council or myself to show your support. If you
would like any more information please contact
me.
Commencing from Tuesday March 11
th
2014, I
will be holding a monthly surgery at the Buck-
den Village Hall in the Aragon room from
6.30pm for one hour. I will be available for any
resident to come have an informal chat about
any subject they wish to discuss. This surgery
will be held every second Tuesday on a monthly
basis. I look forward to meeting you. Please feel
free to just come along, an appointment is not
necessary.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
