Buckden Roundabout
December 2018
School & Pre-school
The autumn term always feels like one event after the oth-
er! The children loved decorating Preschool for Halloween
and seeing the home corner transformed into the Witch’s
Kitchen from one of their favourite books,
What’s in the
Witch’s Kitchen?
Firework crafts and work on our beautiful
Remembrance Day display came next and we hope you all
got a chance to see our cascade of poppies on our balcony
and in our windows (photos can be found on both the Pre-
school and Buckden residents’ Facebook pages). Hanukkah
and Christmas activities will take us to the end of term. The
children will be making paper plate menorahs and a range
of Christmas crafts.
The Preschool community has also been busy on the fund-
raising front too. Orders for the Christmas cards designed by
the children have raised £40 for Preschool, while our Hal-
loween Party raised £279 and our Quiz Night, £200 – we
hope you had a great time if you came along. Thank you to
everyone who supported, organised and ran these events!
Our sponsored ramble in aid of Children in Need went well,
although the distance to Diddington proved a little ambi-
tious for some children, ones who were younger or not so
used to stretching their legs! We are still awaiting some
sponsorship money, so we don’t have a final total as yet.
Coming up, we will have a stall at the Christmas Lights Festi-
val on 2
nd
Dec and an open morning in the Lincoln Room
and Preschool on 7th Dec 9-11.30, with Christmas crafts and
a sensory circuits session. Our term ends with a Christmas
concert and party—we’re told a very special visitor might be
popping in with presents!
Finally, a reminder that we still have funded places available
for three-year olds—and still need more committee mem-
bers! If you are interested in securing a place for your child
or arranging a visit, please contact our Manager, Samantha
Sinclair, on 07941 671999. To discover what’s involved in
becoming a committee member, contact our Chairperson,
Becky Milne, at

Last but not least, from everyone at Preschool:
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
Another busy month here at Buckden School. Our Year 1 chil-
dren visited The Higgins Museum in Bedford to learn about
toys from the past. Everyone had a lovely day and learnt so
much about how our grandparents played with their toys.
Pudsey Bear visited the school. Everyone was amazed when he
came into assembly one morning. What a lovely surprise for us
all. On Children In Need Day we all dressed up in our pyjamas
to raise money for the charity.
Some members of the school are learning to play instruments
in our own band. We are learning the guitar, keyboard and
drums, and we also have some singers to create our own rock
band. It’s all a lot of fun while we learn.
Our PTA has been busy arranging events for our parents to en-
joy. They have arranged a murder mystery evening, which was
very well attended, a Christmas shopping evening, and a Nearly
New Uniform shop. They are also busy organising some Christ-
mas events for the children. Thank you to all members of the
PTA who all work so hard to help our school.
The school has received complaints about the parking in the
roads around the school. To help make the parking easier we
are asking parents and those who bring and collect children to
school to use the following guidelines:
•
The car park in front of the school is for teachers and
official visitors to the school only.
•
Please do not park on the staff car park for dropping off
or collecting your children.
•
Please do not park on the yellow lines around the
school, in the bus bay, or use these areas to drop or pick
up your child/children. These areas are reserved for
disabled parking and the school bus.
•
Please do not park across the driveways of the local resi-
dents in School Lane, Greenway or Mill Road.
•
Please do not park on, or near to, corners of roads. This
can block visibility for road traffic and pedestrians.
•
Please do not ‘double-park’ blocking the free flow of
traffic on the roads.
•
Please do not park in the car park by the shops.
If you have difficulty parking around the school, please use the
car park at The Village Hall off Burberry Road, which is a short 5
minute walk to the school. Thank you for your help with this
issue.
We have set the school dates for the school year 2019/2020.
Please see the updated Term dates on page 13.
