FRIENDS IN DEED
Our Summer Tea Party was held in Jane Shepard’s garden on
the day before
the UK’s hottest
day on record -
just as well we
had three gaze-
bos and some tall
trees to keep eve-
ryone in the
shade!! 43 people
attended and
enjoyed the deli-
cious home-made
cakes and tea. Our grateful thanks to Brenda Steadman who
organised the party, to Jane Shepard for kindly hosting us in
her garden, to our members who baked the cakes and to all
those who helped out beforehand and on the day, particularly
the ‘kitchen crew’ – all very much appreciated by our guests.
The
next Community Café
will be on
Wednesday 11th Sep-
tember in the Living Stones Room at St Mary’s, 2.30 to 4pm
.
It is open to all and we look forward to
welcoming you there. If you require
transport, then just call us on the Transport
Coordinator’s phone listed below but do
give us a couple of days’ notice.
Talking of transport, we would like to thank our dedicated
team of volunteer drivers who take people around the local
area for a variety of medical and dental appointments, and
some social events, when family or friends aren’t available
and public transport is not an option. It should be noted that
Buckden Surgery has its own scheme for surgery appoint-
ments.
A date for your diaries - the
Friends in Deed AGM
will be held
in Buckden Village Hall on
Wednesday 23rd October at 7pm
.
We look forward to welcoming you there.

The Huntingdonshire Local Group of the Wildlife Trust invites
you to their first indoor meeting of the autumn on
Wednesday 11
th
September 2019 at 7.30pm
.
This illustrated talk about Goshawks will be given by Conor
Jameson, who has worked for the RSPB and BirdLife over 25
years. Conor has written for The Guardian and BBC Wildlife
and is a columnist for the RSPB magazine ‘Natures Home’.
The talk will tell the story behind Conor’s well known book
‘Looking for the Goshawk’, which took him to some unex-
pected places at home and abroad in search of this mystery-
shrouded bird of prey. Originally found in the UK, the gos-
hawk was persecuted to extinction in the late 19
th
century but
re-introduced in the late 1960s. Conor will expand upon the
turbulent history of the Goshawk, including how it lives,
where it lives and why it might be missing from our lives.
Anyone who is interested is most welcome to attend.
Meetings are held at Brampton Memorial Hall, Thrapston
Road, Brampton, PE28 4TB starting at 7.30pm. Booking not
necessary.

Monday Club Strawberry Tea
It poured before and it poured afterwards, but we were so
lucky on Monday 29
th
July when we held the Monday Club
Strawberry Tea in Betty Millard’s garden.
The sun shone all afternoon and we sat under three gazebos
which were there to keep us in the shade rather than out of
the rain! The gazebos had been looking a bit sorry for them-
selves after the torrential downpours of the two previous days
but perked up when they saw the sunshine and our cheerful
band of ladies.
Twenty-six members and 3 helpers enjoyed strawberries,
scones, jam, cream and a cup of tea! Everyone seemed to
thoroughly enjoy themselves.
