Front Cover
The front cover this month shows snowdrops in Buckden and
was provided by Alec MacAndrew. As ever we are very grate-
ful.
We are looking for more paintings of any kind that we could
use as a front cover. We can photograph them if you only
have original artwork. We are also keen to get images (photos
or paintings) of the village and surrounding areas in prepara-
tion for future issues. Please note that images should ideally
be in portrait format and should be a
minimum
of 2400 x
1700 pixels. More is better!

March 2020
I wish I could say that Spring is in the air, but, as I write, Storm
Dennis is continuing where Storm Ciara left off, and is batter-
ing the UK. Hopefully, by the time you read this, there will
have been a positive change in the weather. At least the
daffodils are opening and will be everywhere in time for the
Buckden Gardeners Spring Show. Let’s hope the winds don’t
flatten them all. We are getting a fantastic show of snow-
drops this year, and because they are so close to the ground ,
they seem to survive the strong winds well.
Talking about the Buckden Gardeners Spring Show, why not
consider entering? You can find the Show schedule on pages
11 and 12 of this issue.
We also have the next in our regular series of articles about
wildlife in Buckden by Mark Ward (page 13). This month’s
article reflects on the amazing season for fungi late last year,
when several rare species were spotted in Buckden. Mark also
touches on the need to keep some areas in the village “wild”
for the benefit of wildlife and remarks on rare winter visitors
and early spring flowers.
We have an article about a local lad made good, Buckden’s
own England Rugby Union star, George Furbank (page 14).
Imagine making your England debut in Paris against France
and then following it up against Scotland at Murrayfield.
There is much more to read about in this edition, so it’s time
to get cracking.
Please remember to visit the Roundabout website. There are
often articles there that we could not fit into the print edition,
as well as information that arrives during the month:
