Buckden Roundabout
June 2017
School & Pre-School
Firstly, a thank you to all those who have kindly donated
Sainsbury’s vouchers (and dropped their change in our vouch-
er box at Nisa too!). The vouchers are no longer being is-
sued
but can still be donated until 30
th
June,
so if you have
any lurking around, please either drop them off at preschool
or pop them into the box kindly hosted for us by Nisa. We are
also collecting items for our summer tombola stalls at the
village festival and Buckfest, so if you have any suitable items,
please drop them into preschool. Thanks to all those who
have already donated items.
In April, we had great fun celebrating St. George's Day by
making shields and swords and the pre-schoolers leaving us at
the end of June began their PE sessions. Hopefully, by the
time they start school they will be super-speedy at getting
changed! The children also had great fun literally ‘watching
grass grow’ in our planting tray on the balcony. They have
been fascinated by this and have loved running their hand
across the new grass and describing how it feels.
As we start the new half-term, we have a visit from our local
PCSO to look forward to. The children love having visitors and
finding out about the jobs they do, so we’re sure they will
enjoy this just as they have previous visits from nurses and
postmen etc.! Nearer to the end of term, we hope to see you
at our stalls at the village fete on 1
st
July and Buckfest on the
15
th
July. We will also be running our popular Stay and Play
sessions again during the summer holidays – look out for de-
tails in the next Roundabout, or on our posters and Facebook
page.

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
May 2017
This has been a very busy half term. The children in Years 6
and 2 have been sitting their SATS tests. They have been very
busy in class preparing for the tests and have now completed
them.
Many of our children have taken part in both residential and
day visits.
The whole of Year 4 children went on a residential visit to the
Hilltop Centre at Sheringham in Norfolk. Despite the cold
weather everyone had an enjoyable time. The children took
part in a wide variety of activities throughout each day. These
included climbing up and down ropes, going along a tree-top
trail, an air jump, orienteering and taking part in field games
and team challenges. They also spent time both at and in the
local river, the River Glaven, studying the local environment.
Everyone came home exhilarated, but tired including the ac-
companying staff, Mrs Heather, Mrs Tarpey, Miss Wetzel,
Miss Lewsley, Mrs Smith and Mrs Bond.
Our Reception children visited Paxton Pits to discover the
world of the mini-beast. They spent a lovely day searching for
them in the ponds and undergrowth.
Our Year 5 children visited the Safety Zone based at St Neots
Fire Station. During the visit the children were given advice by
local police officers and PCSO’s, representatives from the Fire
Service, Environmental Health, Road Safety Offices and St
John’s Ambulance officers on personal safety. It was an in-
formative afternoon for both the children and the teachers
who accompanied them.
We would like to thank all the residents of Buckden for their
donations of plastic bottles for our greenhouse. We are
pleased to say that our greenhouse has now been built,
thanks you to Chris Skelton (the school site manager), Mrs
Tarpey and her son and Mark and Sabrina from Explore Plant
Hire. As we still have bottles in store to use as spares, we
don’t need any more. Thank you also to the residents who
have brought in Sainsbury’s Active Kid vouchers. We are
grateful for all your contributions.
