SCHOOL&PRE-SCHOOLNEWS
BUCKDENPRE-SCHOOLPLAYGROUP
It’s hard to believe July is here andwe’re saying
goodbye to our leavers again. TheLeavers’ Party is
always anemotional time for children, parents and
staff, and this yearmost leavers are youngest broth-
ers and sisters, sowe’re sayinggoodbye to families
whohave been part of preschool for several years.
Wewish them all the very best for the future, and
thank them for their support.
Luckily, one familywe’ve stayed in touchwith is the
Dudleys – andMr Dudleyhas done us proud again
this year with another plant sale to raise funds for
preschool. A huge thank you toMr Dudley (andhis
helpers, MrsDudley andMissSuzie!) for their efforts,
and to all who supported the sale. It raised an amaz-
ing £316! Thanks also to everyonewhodonated
Sainsbury’s vouchers, and toCostcutter for kindly
hosting our collectionbox. Costcutter nowhavean-
other collectionbox for donations for our tombola -
one of themany funattractions on our stall at Buck-
denVillageFestival! So pleasedonate anything you
canand visit our stall on 28
th
June.
Looking forward, losing somanypreschool families
means losing committeemembers too, and as a
charity-based preschool we can’t operatewithout a
committee and chairperson. Corrine stepped into the
breachas ActingChair last year and has done a ster-
ling job, but withher youngest childmovingon to
school shewould like to handover the reins. You
don’t need tobea preschool parent or carer to join
the committee or volunteer for the role of chairper-
son, and events andmeetings are fun, sociable occa-
sions. If youwould like to knowmoreabout what’s
involved, ringCorrine on thenumber below for a no-
obligation chat.

June 2014
The last half term of the school year is always very
busy and thismonth has been no exception. School
life continues as normal interspersed with a variety
of exciting events. Our Year 5 and 6 children repre-
sented the school at aQuadKids athletics tournament
in St Ives. Two teams went along to take part in a
variety of sports, competing against other local
schools.
Well done to the Buckden teamwho represented the
school with energy and enthusiasm. The school en-
tertained over 60 fathers at the FathersDay lunch. A
menu of roast pork, steak pie or chicken, followed by
jam roly-poly or chocolate fudge cake was offered to
our Dads who all enjoyed their visit to the school.
Well done to the kitchen team for once again, provid-
ing a lovelymeal. Our Year 6 children had their En-
terprise Week. During this week teams of children
have to create a business plan, cost the materials
they need for their business, make their goods or cre-
ate games ready for an Enterprise afternoon for the
whole school. We had a lovely afternoon of buying
and selling goods, along with playing games on the
playground. The money raised by Year 6 has been
sent to theBreast Cancer charity.
Wehave continuedwith our class assemblies and the
class visits to the library. Thank you to the ladies at
the library for giving all our childrenentertaining visits.
We are now looking forward to Sports Day and the
end of term activities including the Year 5/6 produc-
tion, the whole school transition week meeting our
new teachers and our end of year celebration assem-
blies. More news about these events will be in next
monthsBuckdenRoundabout.

BUCKDENSURGERYNEWS
As you will have no doubt noticed there has been no
news from the surgery for somemonths. This is partly
due to lack of space in the Roundabout, but also the
surgery is now producing a newsletter of it’s own.
This is delivered by email to anyone registered, but it
is also available on the Surgery Website at this ad-
dress:

and also on theBuckdenRoundabout websiteat:
